Donny Hathaway Unsung So I was watching Donny Hathaway's Unsung on YouTube and was amazed by his talent My fav song from his is A Song For You-just beautiful, but my question is this-How many other artist have been diagnosed with some sort of mental illness that we know of? I find it interesting that someone could live with those issues and be so amazingly talented Don't want to offend any one I was just wondering if anyone knew of other talented, famous artist who have been through this

Did some research and found that Phil Spector and Brian Wilson were both schizophrenic

My girlfriend has bi-polar disorder and is a very talented musician and producer. She has her good days and bad days, but it does not seem to effect her music. If fact, I believe that it helps make her music better. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Phyllis Hyman struggled through it till she took her own life,,,,,,so were Billie Holiday & Dinah Washington(they were manic depressive, that is). Actresses Jenifer Lewis & Lisa Nicole Carson also admitted by being bi-polar.
Shortrini, good luck with your girlfriend. God only knows its no walk to the park.

Harlepolis,
It's kind of like dating two people, cause you never know which one is going to show up. She is on medication and as long as she takes it, she is all right. She is a talented musician and up and coming producer. She has used it to get her through those "not so good days". I am so proud of her and would not trade her for the world. A lot more needs to be done about mental illness, because there are those who believe that, mental illness is mental illness and that the people who suffer from them, are bad or nasty. This is so far from the truth. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Good for ya'll
I'm on the herbal medication myself and even though its hard work, I'm better. There were days when I didn't have the strength to get from bed. Its not a joke when you're a parent too.
Jogging, kick boxing or engaging in any other physical sport can really help(at least from my experience). You say she's a musician, thats a good sign, as long as she's keeping herself busy, she'll be fine.
And if I had a dime for everytime somebody come out of their way to tell me "black folks don't go to shrinks, they go to church", I'd be rich enough to send my future great grand children to college talking is for the birds, shorttrini, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I know. She and I make quite a pair, with my disability,(I walk with crutches), and her Bi-Polar. You know I have often prayed to god for someone to love and then he blessed me with her. She is the yin to my yang. You know us Libra's though Harlepolis, even though they say that we are unbalanced, we seemed to know what we are.
