Basically any recording can be submitted, but it depends on the label and then goes the whole process of voting to get to the nomination round, its a long-political process.

It's gonna be an interesting battle in the rap categories, Jay-Z vs Eminem. Both Grammy favorites. Hov & Alicia deserve and have Rap/Sung Collaboration on lock for 'Empire State Of Mind.' That's obvious. But I don't know which way the academy is gonna go in Rap Song, Album, etc. I'd personally give Album to the Blueprint 3 but I can see them giving it to Recovery and I'd give Song to Not Afraid but I can see them giving it to Empire...

as always there is a "theme" with the Grammies, i think Eminem will be a big one for the year, he was viewed as being down and out this and that, and then all of a sudden he is now a "critics darling"? I have always wanted the grammies to a bit further in their search for the nominees, but they dont, despite everyone being submitted, its already pretty much decided industry wise who is gonna get what.

yeah hes at that point now, where he was the "bad" boy now the industry will kiss his white ass, because basically, he is giving them reason to still have jobs. As for Jay, i wasnt feeling that Blueprint 3 record at all, but he had a few songs that will get him in because hes who he is, i mean thats how Prince won for "future baby mama" easily one of the worst songs he ever recorded in his career, actually won?

There are lots more categories that were not listed on that site.

Rock is definitely one of them.
