TLC and Left Eye?? I heard on the radio about a possible TLC reunion...given the fact Lisa is dead...dont really see a point to it...
But really how much of TLC was she?? a 1/3 right?? but if u think of all the songs (singles) they had...most if not all of her parts were edited out right?? so really the commerical success was really T-Boz and Chili's...not Lisa's...
Dont get me wrong... Lisa had better stage presence than any of them...but did people really buy TLC music because of her...just sayin... [Edited 10/11/10 17:17pm]

Personally T-Boz did it for me! I think most of their fans had a favorite member and they as a group benefited from that fact. Okay, call me stupid but I never was into TLC but could Left Eye actually sing or was she the rapper in the group? Before her death, I always took her as the disposable member in the group.
Again, I never followed their career beyond being in situations where I couldn't change the channel when their song/video came on or seeing them in various media outlets. So enlighten me, what was her role in the group? Space for sale...

She was the rapper, but I thought she was also a big creative force in the group as well. I could be wrong. but that was always my impression "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Left Eye was the rapper. They did credit her with backing vocals(for singing). Chilli was probably the more accepted voice by singing standards and T-Boz had that raspy, deep, sexy vocal going for her. they music is worth giving a listen especially since there's no more music to come from them as a trio. To me Left Eye completed what became TLC to me.

Thanks for the 411. It's funny cause, from my perspective, Left Eye always appeared to be the expandable member of the group. Now I know she was more a behind the scenes player. Space for sale...

All of the girls were talented, in my opinion. What made the group interesting to me was that they were clones of each other. A lot of girl groups just get one lead and a bunch of disposable backers to fill a stage. yeah, that is what I heard. Not only writing but also their dress/image presented in shows. I think it was left eye's idea of the song about safe sex and also the whole wearing the condoms on their costumes for the video.
Who is Dallas Austin? I thought that was the Falcon's football player that she was engaged to and had the fight/fire with. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Dallas Austin was the groups producer and Chili's baby daddy, the football player Left Eye was engaged to was Andre "Bad Moon" Rising.

You're thinking of Andre Rison.

TLC was the perfect example of group harmony. It wasn't a Destiny's Child/Supremes situation where one of them did everything and the rest were or could be replaceable stand-ins. It was like baseball. There MUST be a pitcher, there MUST be a catcher, there MUST be people on base, and so forth or else the game wouldn't work. The three of them were all needed and each had a specific role.
T-Boz, the cool one with the rich, low voice took the de-facto role on CrazySexyCool. Confident and collected she was perhaps my favorite member. (Made the hits "Creep" "Waterfalls" "Diggin On You" "Red Light Special")
Lefteye was the crazy one with the ill-tempered, fiery attitude. The founding member also created the most trouble (and laughter.) Known for that child-like baby voice, she took lead on the trios first album, Ooooohh...On The TLC Tip. (Made the hits "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" "What About Your Friends")
And Chilli was the sexy one that would likely end up on all the "hot" lists. Though she sung background and often took the second and third verses in their early years, she didn't get a chance to be up front until the groups third release, Fanmail. (Made the hit "No Scrubs")

Thought it was weird that there was talk of a reality show to find a new third member (did that happen?). TLC was the three of them (and Chili was my favorite ). Lisa definitely sang and contributed a lot to songwriting and their image, too. If they want to keep going just do something else together. T-Boz and Chili. A new band name. Waterfalls - whatever. Dallas is still around, so I'm sure the three of them could work something out without calling themselves TLC.

interesting because my wife and I were just talking about them last weekend. we were both of the mind they could still work - left eye. not trying to speak ill of the dead but she didn't add much of anything to those records. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Okay, thanks to you and Timmy for setting me straight. I didn't know Chili had a baby let alone a baby's daddy. I never really followed their gossip until left eye burned that Mother down! "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Did you view her Last Days documentary? It showed who Left Eye really was rather than what the media portrayed. I always thought she had a lot to do with why TLC became successful. Of course she worked with T Boz and Chilli as a team so they benefited together.

Even though Left Eye wasn't a singer Chilli was always the one that grated on my last nerves. great voice but she really was a porn star who ended up singing instead In the scrub video, T-Boz and Left Eye were off the hook with their look and it's like Chilli just couldn't be bothered to be anything other than a pretty face
