Paula Abdul "Blowing Kisses In The Wind"

Always loved this track from "Spellbound". The video is pretty sexy too...

I feel bad to say this, but i love this song....together with "will you marry me".

I still listen to it frequently, although i can hear she can't sing. I especially love the

part where the male voice comes in.

Now, I had Paula's Forever Your Girl ages before it blew up (I fell in love with Knocked Out when it flopped and bought the album and loved it) but the producers on the second album did a horrible job of masking her lack of singing ability. I can't help but giggle when I hear this song and Hush, Hush...I mean Rush Rush.

^^I'll admit that there are cringeworthy moments in her vocals on BKITW, but it is overall a great track. biggrin

You know it's bad when I'm one of those who don't hear what other's hate about Appples singing in Take Me With You but can hear how off Paula is.

I always wonder why people feel bad to say they like a specific song.

I loved Paula's songs from that period and the period before that (the Forever Your Girl era). I think she released it at a weird time in the music industry. After the Milli Vanilli scandal in 1989, folks started to sing live onstage like Janet and 'em in fear they may be accused of not being "singers". Paula did this too.

Around the time Paula put out Spellbound, Martha Wash sued (and later won) against record companies who hadn't credited her for her hits with C+C Music Factory (and for not letting her in their music videos in replacement of Zelma Davis, who could sing a bit but not like Martha) and Black Box (some Afro-European model sung in the video but she wasn't even a member of that group) and New Kids on the Block had to prove to people they could sing despite claims someone did all their vocals.

So Paula decided to go for more ballads than the usual dance stuff. Guess it didn't really prove anything to people who thought "she's a great dancer but a HORRIBLE singer."

I remembered In Living Color mocked her for "Promise of a New Day":

It's probably her "Woo hoo-hoo!" part at the end of TMWY...and the "I don't care purddy baybaaeah!"

don't take it too seriously, but you don't score points as a 37 year old guy singing along with
Paula abduls "will you marry me" LOL

Wow! To hear a real vocalist pull the song off would seem odd now. LOL

you probably wouldn't even be able to discern a melody through all that caterwauling. it would have just been another one of those potentially great songs wasted on Patti Labelle that someone had to cover to make it any good, and then she woulda gotten pissed, etc.

That only happened ONCE. lol

Anyway, I found the video of her performing "Rush Rush."
