"Four Women" is FINE on its own without any need of re-recording/covering rolleyes It would've been more dramatic if they stayed with Nina's song, but their dumb asses are always after the young crowd.

No it's not. I follow tons of Oscar derby websites and not a single one of them has brought up Nothing as a possible nominee. Who said that bull? lol

I wouldn't count it out. Especially since the last few songs that won for movie songs were horrible andy crappy, "Nothing" would fall into the same category.

I just re-read it again, you mean they had the galls to remix Nina Simone with the newcomers? That don't make sense especially since it's something Nina wouldn't have approved of. confused

I think peeps need to understand that the award is for best use of a song in a film and not actually the better song to listen to on its own. There's a big difference! As far as past winners, you can't deny that the songs that have won (ie, Crazy Heart, Slumdog, Once, Frida) are memorable parts of the tone of their films. Everbody walked away singing that damn Slumdog song, the Frida song was essential to the success of that film and Crazy Heart and Once had their film's heart conveyed through their songs.

How is Janet's song used in that film? Maybe its a throwaway cause people are talking about the songs in Toy Story 3, that upcoming Gwyneth Paltrow film but aint know body talking about Nothing. Seriously.

Speaking of Oscar hopefuls, there was some early talk that Janet may be a contender for a nod due to this film. hmmm

Nahh, see, what happens is the studios will taught who they are hoping are in contention and then the trade people pick up on that and now fans are twisting that into something other then wishful thinking. I'd love it if Janet were nominated but without anyone seeing the film, we just don't no...yet.

I SO agree with you on this! "Four Women" is so powerful that I hate to see it treated this way even though it appears that her daughter, Simone, is on it. It's just unnecessary!!

I'd rather see some real, more experienced actors in this film get an Oscar nod. I don't see Janet as being ready for that even without having seen THIS one yet. hmph!

How can u say that without seeing it?

I wish the entire cast luck at getting nominated for big awards for this movie (not necessarilly just Janet).

It would really be nice to see Loretta Devine win a major acting award for a movie (not just an NAACP award). She has paid her dues in Hollywood and on the stage and she should be praised for her great body of work.

I agree. Yeah there was talk Janet would get a nod anyway for that song. We'll see what happens when it comes out on Nov. 5.

Sorry, I didn't read it well, I guess. For the song category, fine. I still don't think Janet has developed as an actress and I'd like to see Loretta Devine or Kimberly Elise or some other more experienced actors (as I said before) be in line for an Oscar for acting. Again, I didn't realize we were talking about the soundtrack with reference to Janet. Thanks for the correction (but not for the "fail!") wink

Well, i don't really care about the movie as much as the sound track. it sounds like it will be amazing. I'd get it just because Janelle is on there. But Ledisi is a good addition, too. i'll take that wink

If anyone gets nominated for this film it will be either Whoopi or Phalicia Rashad and I'm gunning for Rashad. It would be cool to see her follow Mary Tyler Moore in the sitcom mom stars who make it to the Oscars...

but all of this is moot cause Perry probably screwed up and made a crappy film...as usual. lol

You haven't seen the movie yet to determine which actors will recieve nominations or whether the movie is crappy.

I say that cause those are the two with the biggest following (and admiration and respect) amongst the acting branches in Hollywood. It's been awhile since Whoopi has been in anything of note and Academy voters love welcoming back a veteran. Rashad is hot right now following her Tony win and a SAG nomination. Like Tyler Moore, she's a tv star who fellow actors love. That's why, out of the bunch, I would say those two have the best chance.

Now, all this could change if any one of these woman pulls off a Monique level performance but come on, we are talking about a Tyler Perry film and I highly doubt he is going to elecite a solid performance of that calibur from any of these beautiful and talented women (either that or his editing will kill a performance). So, if anyone gets nominated, its' going to be more about politics than a performance and that bodes well for Goldberg and Rashad. IMHO.

I'm gonna turn this into an Oscar watch thread. lol From a site I follow: "Back to supporting actresses, I’m told Lionsgate is most excited about Kimberly Elise and Thandie Newton..."

That's based on performance. No Janet but no Whoopi or Rashad. Lionsgate is stupid. lol

Because that's my opinion based on her most recent work prior to this film. Just my OPINION, ok?
