I'm sure I've told you this before, but I only went to one year of public high school. I did the final three years on independent study. I had the same teacher the whole time and she fuckin' rocked! (She also ended up being my sister's teacher after she got pregnant.... my sister... not the teacher...) The social games involved with high school just DID NOT work for me. I'd already been raising my sister, taking care of the house, working in the family meat stores and at the ranches as well as being a parent to my drunk mother and her equally abusive drunk boyfriend on the rare occasion that I actually saw them. The first time somebody gave me shit in high school... well, it didn't really work out how they had planned it. lol Neither did the second or third time. I ended up LOVING independent study, though (which thankfully gives you an actual diploma, not a half-assed "you passed a test" version). Me, my teacher and another of her students started a school paper and I ended up taking every math class the state of California offered, even though I didn't need to (wouldn't have been able to do that in regular high school). Anyway, babble, babble! lol The point is that I HATE shows about high school because that's JUST not the way it is. Particularly the breaking out in song part. Shit pisses me off. lol

A few of my teachers hated me because I would not go to their classes and then show up on test day and get the highest score in the class. lol

See! I know we've had this conversation before at some point. Things were really bad at home during the eighth grade. To deal with it I ended up either acting out a lot at school, or I just didn't go. They were going to fail me and hold me back if I couldn't pass all the year end tests with some average. I can't remember what it was, a B I think. I got an A on all of them. lol

Oo, I had a great teacher that year, though! Ms. Prentice. She was my Lit teacher, a class I only got to take because I tested well (it was a high school prep class). That's where my love of Shakespeare and reading in general comes from. OK... this has become a total thread jacking... Glee Beatles yeah yeah yeah woo! lol

I hate to admit this, but on the first episode, when they did the "Don't Stop Believing" I blubbered like an asshole bawl because I was one of those theatre freaks and I remember being on stage and thinking anything was possible. lol I'm such an asshole. Not about stuff being possible, about the blubbering. doh! lol

It's not like he's really behind. There's only been one season completed so far. The 3rd episode of season 2 just aired yesterday.

See? The way folks talk about it you think they been on the air for three seasons or some shit. lol I know they had like a hiatus after December '09, I knew they had one because I saw it being tweeted when I used to be a Twitter nut. lol

I seriously don't get the hype of this show. I watched one episode and it was bland acting in between generic, Kidz Bop/generic tribute album music numbers.

Here is a recap of the acts with the most appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 through the chart dated Oct. 16:

108, Elvis Presley

91, James Brown

75, "Glee" Cast

74, Ray Charles

73, Aretha Franklin

71, the Beatles

67, Elton John

64, Lil Wayne

63, Stevie Wonder

61, Jay-Z

(Billboard.com)

The numbers for both of these are so depressing. It just goes to show that the youth of today have no idea what good music is.

Glee is about checking out mentally for about 45 minutes and enjoying it for the kistchy corny campy entertainment that it is. Anyone looking for anything more would be sorely disappointed.

It's funny to see folk get pissed over stuff considered crap beating quality material on charts. I haven't kept up with charts since I was a teen. I remember always being pissed that Prince didn't chart as I thought he should. lol Fuck a chart. fart

You all know my stance on this. This is a wonderful show. It gets great reviews and should be taken for what it is--campy, joyous fun. You should not take the music seriously as high art, it is there to be purposely corny. Why do you think the jocks beat up the Glee geeks? It's a humourous look at the reality of high school life. What the Glee club does is it brings all the stupid cliques of high school together, singing, dancing, being fabulous.

We aint talkin Hawaii 50, Melrose Place, this wins Emmys.

I would never buy any of the cds. The point is not to inflate the music as high art but to dance to it and forget it as soon as it ends. It's camp, not real.

Blame the greedheads at Fox not Glee.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

It is what it is, just numbers, like if/when Mariah breaks the Beatles number record, it means nothing, impact wise Glee is nothing more than what AI is/was for its time, i doubt we will be hearing about Glee reissues and new master recordings 4 decades from now, its a phase, there is no musical impact, its kind of like if the High School Musical gang had a tv show, then we would be calling Vanessa Hudgens the biggest female singer of all time.

I watched one episode of Glee and couldn't get into it at all. Maybe it's my age (38) but I hated the Sue Sylvester character and thought the rest of them bursting out into songs by Journey, etc was incredibly cheesy. I would NEVER buy a Glee CD or download; not even if it was Prince songs they were butchering.

[Edited 10/6/10 13:55pm]

It has nothing to do with your age, trust me!

Unlike you,I couldnt even make it through the whole episode.

I enjoy Glee for what it is, pure entertainment. But I must say that the first half of season 1 was much better than the second half and the first 3 episodes of season 2. I think they got caught up in their own hype, that's why the shows after the 2nd half of season 1 started lacking. But imo Tuesday's "Grilled Cheesus" episode was the best they'd had in a while.

It's understandable with rappers, because they "guest" on so many other artist's songs (not that Li'l Wayne is the one who should be leading that pack)

True, but you could say that about anything. I think the concept of the show is somewhat okay, hence why I bothered watching an episode, but I didn't see anything unique about it other than the concept.

That's fair enough. It's just like anything else. Subjective.

There's stuff on tv that's brilliant and well acted and even if I can recognize that it's those things I won't like it. You either like stuff or you don't. wink
