I liked it. Don't know y he's got so many haters. "Get up off that grey line"

He's the sludge of the music industry. I can't even imagine clicking the play button. And I won't click it.

I DO respect his decision to cover one of TLC's most underrated songs, and the best non-single song on "FanMail" (side note: ...which was NOT a great album...)
but . I don't hate it, but I don't care to hear it ever again.
Could he be more monotone? [Edited 10/6/10 9:54am]

Fans would prove you wrong. The album is a really good album, as good as CrazySexyCool, and debuted at #1 after they were out of sight for five years; it was their only album to hit #1 in general, as well.

What makes you think I'm not a fan as well?
Why do people bring up *sales* in an argument about quality? Especially when talking about albums previous to around 2001 - when more people were buying albums off of faith and name alone, and the ability to preview albums beforehand was not as easy as it is today. I'll NEVER understand that...
FanMail was going to hit #1 even if it was complete and total trash because, as you said, they were out of sight for 5 years and were heavily anticipated. They were obviously a staple of the 90s, and came out strong with "No Scrubs."
And "prove me wrong?" On my opinion? If you don't agree, that's cool...but c'mon now... I'm not afraid to say I never really cared for the album *in its entirety* back in '99 and, hearing it today, I still don't think it gels like CrazySexyCool. FanMail was ahead-of-its-time with the futuristic sound but between the lifeless midtempos like "Lovesick," "My Life," and "Shout," and sweet ballads like "I Miss You So Much" contrasting with over-the-top ghettoness like "I'm Good At Being Bad" its not as great a listen as the legendary, flawless album that came before it. There's no way in I could agree with that. [Edited 10/6/10 10:36am]

Gotta say: I kinda like the more chill vibe of his version, has a very different ambience and it suits his voice well.
Also gotta say: always good to listen to something before forming an opinion on it.

I like Drakes voice, but sometimes it's just not enough. He only sings in one key. His lyrics and melodies are nice though.

I agree. I like both versions but I gotta say, I may prefer Drake's version right now "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

The original is obviously better but I can stomach it. There's just some covers out there that are so painful it's not even funny.
Did yall hear the Dream's version of Aaliyah's 'One In A Million' a couple months ago?

Chalk that up to repeat business from CrazySexyCool fans, and the crossover single "No Scrubs".

It's a good cover. It's different and fresh. It's laid back. This is a kid who came from Canada and was on DEGRASSI (of all things), and is now setting the hip hop world on fire. Why begrudge him of it? If you just don't like him, fine, but some people are overzealous in their hatred. Ridiculous. "Get up off that grey line"

I agree. In my opinion, TLC never made a great album except for CSC which is flawless. I like the focus on T-Boz. You could combine all of their albums into a near-perfect 2 CD collection. They had a lot of filler...
Back to Drake, I like the tone of his voice but I'm not feeling this one. Good for him though for covering an album track, which nobody ever does. "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

Well, the skittery high-end on the original did nothing for me but Drake's whole inst is filtered/muffled entirely, and that bugs me too.
Sounds a skit where the beat is playing inside a car with the windows rolled up, and he's standing outside singing.
