"Let me tell you a story yes..."

How I got to be so fresh
It happened one day you know
While I was sittin upstairs
listenin to the radio--huh!

They said that it's a contest
We've give the most money to the rapper who's the best

I said you let me enter
Cuz I know I'm down
And everybody knows
cuz it was all around town

This has to be one of the most classic MC deliveries in the history of hip hop. All lines delivered in measure with the last two lines of each stanza delivered rapidly in one measure. Just classic. I love this MC--before Latifah, Lyte, all of em.

Anyone else remember her?

EDIT THE MEMORY.

ding ding ding we've got a winner!!!

woot! woot! woot!

Daym I was beginning to think folks had forgotten about Shante. Listening to Missy's latest song about gossip and the rap breakdown reminds me of Shante's flow. Before there was Latifah, Lyte, Salt n Pepa, Sweet T, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown... there was Shante. She Biz and Marly Mal rocked the show for a good few.

2 damn posts and one of them my own reply???

Where's the love for Roxanne Shante? Finess? DavidEye? Mistermax? Brother915? UptownDeb? Handclaps? C'mon yall!!

I know yall got down with the Roxanne saga--UTFO, Sparky D, the Real Roxanne... "Roxanne, Roxanne" was Full Force before Lisa Lisa. This set the stage for battles on wax.

And from it all, this squeaky voiced little girl emerged to blow them all out of the water with her flow.

They said yeah you won
A with that song
We're gonna call you back so don't wait too long.

So I waited bout a week
A week or two
And they finally called me but the song fell through

Cuz I could not remember
not a word that I said
Cuz you know that night I made it up in my head...

Morning All,

Yeah, of course I used to rock some Roxanne Shante back in the day. I love the answer to the "Roxanne Roxanne" song. The reply and overall delivery was classic.

Good thread. Was late responding.
