Three votes for Whitney's version so far? That's three votes more than I expected.

Chaka. Whitney's cover is fine of course, but on something like that - there's nothing ever like the original.

Any version of any song by any artist is better than a version by Shitney. Hell, even the old ass original version of "The Star Spangled Banner" from the 1700s or 1800s is better than hers. lol

That's like Divas 101, man. lol Yeah I knew that around '93 or '94 or somewhere around there. That's when I first heard that Whitney began singing background for the likes of Chaka. Whitney and two other guys (I presume musicians from the session) sung together. Chaka did the rest of the backgrounds (obviously that's just her going I'M EVERY WOMAN at the end). I think Whitney was doing the "whoa-whoa-whoa..." refrains and parts of the original chorus.

I don't hear Whitney anywhere on Chaka's recording of IEW. She's very audible on "Clouds" and "Our Love is in Danger".

Ok.....long pause.......deep breathe......

CHAKA

...hands down!!!!!

Now with THAT said Chaka's voice is like no other.....Don't get me wrong I like Whitney's remix only because she has the pipes to pull it off and she pretty much kept to the original.....

Side track------Prince at 1:55----do ya'll see my baby getting it in...love that!

In the NJ/NY house clubs there is anticipation to hear Chaka get to the bridge...I mean that part is mind boggling...it just CHAKA at her best..whew let me shake to goosebumps.

Also there is a looped track of Clouds that sometimes I hear...they only looped the part where she just wails in the song....let me tell you something if you have NEVER heard this version then you haven't felt what it's like to be in pure bliss at a house club....OMFG...when dat shit comes on you would swear the Alvin Ailey dancers dropped out of the ceiling...WHAT!!!!! Fuck what ya heard until you experience this shit!

Chaka, and I'd be flabberasted if those Whitney votes weren't nullified on the chance they were to re-perform the song 'today'.

I like both versions.

I especially like the slowed down opening of Whitney's version.
