Getting To Happy (Waiting To Exhale 2) soundtrack?

[img:$uid]http://ecx.imag.../img:$uid]

Terry McMillan is making the rounds with Getting To Happy, the sequel to Waiting To Exhale ... and the movie is in the works. Terry personally called all four actresses to reprise their roles and got three confirmations.

Guess who hasn't confirmed yet?

There's already a Facebook campaign underway to convince her to do it. I've chatted with friends about who could replace Whitney (Vivica Fox?) but, if she's up to it, I hope she returns. I don't think Waiting To Exhale would have made it into theaters without her. It definitely wouldn't have made it into record stores the way it did without her and Babyface.

If the original set the template for the sequel, the soundtrack for Getting To Happy is also going to be highly anticipated. The original was an eclectic mix of different Black women, ranging from new artists to legends, all singing a collection of mostly adult contemporary songs about romance, hurt, survival and passion. Lyrically, these are just conventional songs, but Babyface managed to pull some remarkably genuine performances out of these women. He worked this within an inch of its life. He could have just slapped some classic tunes together and thrown them at the screen, but anyone who has seen the movie and heard the soundtrack knows that is not what he did.

Who are some artists you'd like to see featured on this soundtrack? And who else besides Babyface could produce it? (If anyone up in here says Trey Songz, I'll holler and you'll hear me wherever you are.)

truthfully as long as Angela and Loretta are in, I could give a fuck about Whitney. To be totally honest I can't remember her character's name or nothing exciting that her character did...

meanwhile Angela's got the clothes burning in the car, Loretta's got the flirting with Gregory Hines (RIP), and even Lela got the throwing oranges at the ex and the crazy sex scene with the dancing fat dude....

Whitney.....I think she got to exhale....and that's all I remember 'bout dat.

Well her singing career is over (and I am MAD at her about that, ruining that beautiful voice!) so she might as well find another avenue to get her name out there. She ain't that great an actress, but having her in the movie would draw HUGE crowds at the theater especially after all the's been thru. She wasn't AWFUL in the first one, she could be tolerable in this one. Hell if I could sit thru Why Did I Get Married 2 at the insistence of my mother, watching Whitney reprise her role couldn't be much worse.

Her Nothing But Love Tour has been over for awhile so either she's going to tour the States, record another album, and/or do the movie.

I'm sure she's just taking her time with things since there's no rush.

Blu Cantrell

Faith Evans(again)

Mary J(again)

Kelly Price

Angie Stone

Syleena Johnson

Stephanie Mills

Gladys Knight, Candi Staton and Deniece Williams for the seasoned divas.

Would love it if Meshell Ndegeocello produces this, she has the versatility to pull it off. If not, then George Duke, he already made a reputation of bringing the best out of every female vocalist he worked with.

Its a Terry McMillan novel with the same ol' usual "black women who couldn't keep a penis in their vaginas long enough for a premature ejaculation" lament, were you expecting a throwdown? lol

And anyway smarty pants, where is your list? hammer

Do y'all think Prince could or would produce this (meaning write & produce the soundtrack as well as scoring the film)? I agree that George Duke could do it as well - as well as Narada Michael Walden.

Lina would probably LOVE 2 do it, but I don't think it would happen.

Um ... if you ever change your mind, maybe your local library can help you with that? lol
