But then why are many important, "the eagles" are in are they important? i mean there are a shit load of country singer songwriter artists better, Someone said put Duran Duran in, why? what did they do? made videos, well this isnt the MTV hall of fame, who did they influence, JTimberlake? I mean importance and things like that are judgemental, influence is wide ranging, i mean Coldplay and Radiohead will get in one day and yet their biggest influences a-ha will never be considered for that Hall, so does inlfuence really matter? But lets be real, JOVI opened the door for those other bands, regardless of its musical merits which is again for everyone to judge differently, I mean Percy SLedge is in for one song, GunsNRoses will get in for one album, so Jovi getting in even on the basis of "slippery when wet and new jersey" to me is justified

I would say that Eagles are very important.Their 'Best Of' CD is the second biggest selling album of all time (after "Thriller") which proves just how popular their music is.They and Fleetwood Mac were arguably the biggest rock bands of the 70s and if you wanna talk about "influence",the Eagles were doing that whole country/rock thing when the Bon Jovi members were liitle kids.

She is probably one of the most influential artists of the golden age of the music video era. And, she's made enough very good to great music to meet the artistic threshold for entry, and she's the female face of the Minneapolis Sound (and btw, Jam and Lewis should go into the Hall someday, but that's a second skillet).

I haven't bought a Janet album in almost 15 years, but I don't see how anyone could make an argument that she does NOT get in.

BRAVO!!! BRAV-FUCKING-O. Her influence and records speak for themselves. The media can holler "Madonna Madonna Madonna" all day long when it comes to who's influenced these younger generation of female performers, but when I look at videos for Britney, Ciara, Mya, Cassie, etc, I see Janet.

The "Rock Hall" has never been just about "rock and roll"; they only named it that shit 'cause they thought "The Popular Music Hall of Fame" sounded uncool.

Poy-sonally, I'm happy to see Waits on the list (although, by rights, he should've been there 12 years ago). Will be interesting to see if he makes the cut (and, if so, who'll do the induction honors). Actually, it'd be interesting to see how he'd handle the whole thing (Does he go the Sex Pistols route and say, 'Fuck you!'? Do a Bowie and be a no-show for the ceremony, yet not refuse the induction? Come up with an angle on it that doesn't inspire cognitive dissonance with his anti-commercial stance? I'm betting on Door #3).

Percy Sledge is in the Hall of Fame for a love song that maybe no other song in rock history could match. That's enough.

Bon Jovi is one of the most famous groups of the 80's, and the music video era. They belong in the Hall of Fame, quality of their music (which is debatable either way) notwithstanding.

Also, a lot of artists beloved by other artists but relatively unknown or forgotten by the general public are in the Hall of Fame. The blues artists were among those early entrants. The 60's and 70's legends are now getting their due. As time goes on, other underappreciated groups of the 80's, who knows, maybe even A-Ha, will make it, because later committees will consider other artists of the 90's and 00's less worthy of inclusion. It may not be until 2030, but some of those cats will get in.
