Bon Jovi? What kind of joke is that?

I have to agree.Bon Jovi had some good singles and a great album ('Slippery When Wet') but they weren't influential or important at all. They were just another 80s "big hair" rock band lol None of their songs were groundbreaking.

dont buy that at all. Influence and Importance are for others to judge and alot of the Hall is full of unworthy and NON influential artists, who the hell did Percy Sledge influence? At the end of the day Jovi were important in the scheme of music, whether it was what we like or dislike is for another discussion. If you deny the fact of that whole movement in the early 80's then lets get rid of the Ramones for their Punk CBGB shit. I mean Jovi actually survived that whole thing, and honestly had it not been for the "hair" bands then you wouldnt have the most overrated "hair" band in GunsNRoses, who will get in one day, just for the fact that they were rebelling against bands like Jovi and Motley Crue. I mean if we scanned down the list of people IN the hall already im sure 90% have not been "influential" could be replaced with say, Heart or Hall and Oates or the Moody Blues or Chicago etc... but it is what it is.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why exactly is Bon Jovi "important"? hmmm What did they do in their career that was so groundbreaking, influential and important? 'Slippery When Wet' is a terrific mid-80s rock album but other than that,I don't recall anything spectacular that they did, musically.

I agree with you about Percy Sledge.I like him,but I can name numerous other artists and bands who deserved to get inducted before him.

But then why are many important, "the eagles" are in are they important? i mean there are a shit load of country singer songwriter artists better, Someone said put Duran Duran in, why? what did they do? made videos, well this isnt the MTV hall of fame, who did they influence, JTimberlake? I mean importance and things like that are judgemental, influence is wide ranging, i mean Coldplay and Radiohead will get in one day and yet their biggest influences a-ha will never be considered for that Hall, so does inlfuence really matter? But lets be real, JOVI opened the door for those other bands, regardless of its musical merits which is again for everyone to judge differently, I mean Percy SLedge is in for one song, GunsNRoses will get in for one album, so Jovi getting in even on the basis of "slippery when wet and new jersey" to me is justified

I would say that Eagles are very important.Their 'Best Of' CD is the second biggest selling album of all time (after "Thriller") which proves just how popular their music is.They and Fleetwood Mac were arguably the biggest rock bands of the 70s and if you wanna talk about "influence",the Eagles were doing that whole country/rock thing when the Bon Jovi members were liitle kids.

lol lol lol

If Janet Jackson ever gets in the Hall, then they should let everybody in. lol

[Edited 9/29/10 8:32am]

Complete and utter bullshit statement. Janet has records that NO ARTIST IN HISTORY, including MJ, has.

It is a Hall of Fame. If Janet Jackson does not get in, the Hall should be sued for deceptive advertising.

Janet is one of the biggest selling artists in "rock" history. An argument can be made that she is was at least as influential to a generation of artists that followed as Madonna (i'd argue more influential, but that's a wholenotherskilletofcornbread). She is probably one of the most influential artists of the golden age of the music video era. And, she's made enough very good to great music to meet the artistic threshold for entry, and she's the female face of the Minneapolis Sound (and btw, Jam and Lewis should go into the Hall someday, but that's a second skillet).

I haven't bought a Janet album in almost 15 years, but I don't see how anyone could make an argument that she does NOT get in.

BRAVO!!! BRAV-FUCKING-O. Her influence and records speak for themselves. The media can holler "Madonna Madonna Madonna" all day long when it comes to who's influenced these younger generation of female performers, but when I look at videos for Britney, Ciara, Mya, Cassie, etc, I see Janet.

The "Rock Hall" has never been just about "rock and roll"; they only named it that shit 'cause they thought "The Popular Music Hall of Fame" sounded uncool.

Poy-sonally, I'm happy to see Waits on the list (although, by rights, he should've been there 12 years ago). Will be interesting to see if he makes the cut (and, if so, who'll do the induction honors). Actually, it'd be interesting to see how he'd handle the whole thing (Does he go the Sex Pistols route and say, 'Fuck you!'? Do a Bowie and be a no-show for the ceremony, yet not refuse the induction? Come up with an angle on it that doesn't inspire cognitive dissonance with his anti-commercial rolleyes stance? I'm betting on Door #3).

Even nuttier than Waits not being nominated until 12 years after eligibility is the fact that Lou Reed has not been inducted as a solo artist. How crazy is that?

Then again, this rating of artists - like most everything else in this world - is ridiculously silly, when you think about it. lol

They couldn't even call it the "Music Hall of Fame". Of course "rock and roll" became such a broad term over the years but I guess "The Music Hall of Fame" was just too plain. confused

Percy Sledge is in the Hall of Fame for a love song that maybe no other song in rock history could match. That's enough.

Bon Jovi is one of the most famous groups of the 80's, and the music video era. They belong in the Hall of Fame, quality of their music (which is debatable either way) notwithstanding.

Also, a lot of artists beloved by other artists but relatively unknown or forgotten by the general public are in the Hall of Fame. The blues artists were among those early entrants. The 60's and 70's legends are now getting their due. As time goes on, other underappreciated groups of the 80's, who knows, maybe even A-Ha, will make it, because later committees will consider other artists of the 90's and 00's less worthy of inclusion. It may not be until 2030, but some of those cats will get in.
