"Making Love In The Rain" by Herb Alpert, Lisa Keith, and Ms. Jackson

Who else here LOVES this song?? It's one of those slow jam classics that no one really speaks of, but man... I've been listening to this for the past few days and just getting lost in its angelic melody. Another Jam/Lewis classic from back in the day (along with Herb's "Diamonds", but that's another thing)!! Discuss... smile

Yeah this one is a quiet storm staple, takes me back to late 80's. Great pick.

Funny you should mention this song because I was just listening to it a few hours ago!! I was playing this CD I have called "Smooth Grooves Jazzy Soul" Volume 3 from Rhino Records. It contains the following songs...

"Nights Over Egypt" by The Jones Girls
"So Many Tears" by Regina Belle
"Sweet Sticky Thing" by Ohio Players
"Making Love In The Rain" by Herb Alpert
"Song For You" by Rodney Franklin
"Can You Feel What I'm Saying?" by Minnie Riperton
"The Lady Wants To Know" by Michael Franks
"Every Generation" by Ronnie Laws
"I've Been A Fool for You" by Miles Jaye
"No One else Will Do" by Cheryl Lynn
"Soft And Easy" by The Blackbyrds
"Good Combination" by Peabo Bryson

Rhino has a whole set of these CDs,and they are AMAZING!! Very mellow and laid back, with songs that really move you.

Damn! That sounds nice! I thought I was one of the very few who even knew about Rodney Franklin's Song For You. LOL! But, I see it's on a compilation. I also love that Michael Franks song on there. Absolute classic from him, along with his In The Eye Of The Storm.

Sounds sweet! I have most of these tracks on various stuff, though. But, it's nice to listen to them back to back like that. Did you hear that there will be a Slow Jams Timeless Collection Vol. 9? I'm not sure when it's coming out, but it is in the works at the very least! It's about time cuz that series was pretty damn good. Also, why do they call that "jazzy soul"? Most of the tracks don't sound any different than what's on the normal slow jam compilations (for the most part)!

Yeah,I can't figure out why they call it "jazzy soul"? There really isn't anything "jazzy" about a song like "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers. Many of these songs would fit comfortably on their "Smooth Grooves" CDs that came out in the mid-90s.

Exactly! I think they just needed an excuse to come up with a new series! LOL!

Yeah, they keep coming up with SO many different series,it's hard to keep track...lol...another cool CD by Rhino is called "Smooth Grooves After Hours",which contains these songs...

"Risin To The Top" by Kenny Burke
"Sugar Free" by Juicy
"Firestarter" by Tease
"Silver Shadow" by Atlantic Starr
"Slow Down (12" Version)" by Loose Ends
"Curious" by Midnight Star
"Who Do You Love" by Bernard Wright
"Come Into My Life" by Joyce Sims
"Gotta Get You Home Tonight' by Eugene Wilde
"Don't Look Any Further" by Dennis Edwards featuring Siedah Garrett
"Inside Out (12" Version)" by Odyssey
"Don't Say No Tonight" by Eugene Wilde
"Can You Treat Me Like She Does" by Real To Reel
"Lollipop Love" by Bryan Loren
"I Want To Be Your Man" by Roger

This CD is great because it contains a bunch of songs that were all but forgotten (when was the last time you heard "Firestarter" or "Sugar Free"?).These songs aren't exactly "ballads",either, they're mid-tempo slow jams.

I dont believe Janet was in this song. It sounds like she's in the background, but on my 45 of the record, it says Lisa Keith is the background vocal..hmmm.

There r also 2 different versions of this song. I heard probably what was an album version, then my single 45 version wich has her using her vocals better, and they added an extra drum in that background. I like mine also more, even though it is shorter.
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.
