Weird... I thought D'angelo was black.

The song is awful. Interesting lyrics but everything about the "music" is just weak, WEAK sauce.

The vocals are the only thing that sound remotely like Gnarls. Your comment doesn't make sense to me. *shrug*

That was great!!! D'angelo's voice is fantastic! Musically, the track is straight 80's. As is the vibe of the rest of the album. Mark Ronson has recently discovered synths from that era and is fresh off of producing Duran Duran's next record so... Yes it is wild and different! It's also very exciting to hear one of my favorites artists taking a different musical direction than what he's known for. Expect a lot more of what you don't expect from the coming D'angelo record! I can't wait!!!

Wow I dug that. nod

I'm guessing this is the direction D'Angelo is going with his next album...a lot of rock and funk influences.

this track is decent, it works in the context of the album, only the chorus is a bit weak, he repeats one phrase all the time basically, d' can do a little better... but then again it is probably done to emphasize the lyrics, i don't really hear any cee-lo influence on this, d's phrasing and weird stressing of unaccented syllables is still very unique, especially on the second verse... it's a 180 degree departure and he still made it work

it seems like a well thought out idea for d'angelo to appear on mark's album to get some exposure and connect his name with ronson more since he'll be on his album too. i wonder how d'angelo's record will sound since ronson is involved in it and he is "in his 80s phase", last year questlove was saying that d' abandoned that "james river" project and wrote everything from scratch, badu's new amerykah was a big inspiration http://www.weeklydig.com/...1/uestlove d' is well aware that the 80s are back and he is a BIG prince head, that erykah's album had a lot of synths too... we could really use some "dirty mind" type of stuff from him today, then again... we could really use any type of stuff from him, lol

I abhor it. Oh, by the way big up D'Angelo on aspiring to break the record for longest delayed album.

I don't mind D's part too much. But the music is just terrible. Anybody with some software could make that track. And a lot of people could do it better.

This may not be the remastered version, but at any rate, I'm just glad the man is recording again.

This "song" is complete garbage. The "music" sounds amateurish as hell....

Both D'angelo and Mark Ronson are overrated as hell.... ESPECIALLY D'ANGELO!!!!

That guy can record anything and people on the org will think it's genius...

When you've accomplished what either of these to have in your own music career, you might have the cred to call it garbage.

Yeah Britney Spears and Justin Bieber have accomplished alot too. It's all smoke and mirrors...

D'angelo had that one really hyped up overrated album that benefited alot from all the killer musicians on it and from his biggest hit which was essentially a Prince rip-off.

But hey, if you dig it, to each their own. People hype him up so much yet he has barely released any music at all in his career. Why? Cuz he ain't got it in him....Over-rated!!!!

And for your information, there are plenty of killer musicians in the world who never get the fame and money that these guys get... Like I said, smoke and mirrors! It's all about the image and promotion these days, not talent.

confused I found myself involuntarily crying out "noooooo!" at this.... Ronson is an overrated trader in radio-friendly music-by-numbers to me. Then again, combined with a focused writing and performing talent, a la the Amy Winehouse record, he can sometimes help come up something that gets mainstream airplay but is actually good. Could 'go either way' with D', then, I suppose.

I'd have liked to hear the James River stuff, though.

in the interview with trevor nelson ronson said that he will not be involved in producing the whole record but just in "putting the finishing touches", russ elevado's reported recently that he is in the studio with d'angelo again mixing a few tracks, i guess mark will be involved in this because billboard posted the news about him working with d'angelo on his return on the same day, lol, maybe he'll just be suggesting ideas on what to add or remove or something, i don't know... i believe he'll speak on it soon because media is always all over him

i agree that ronson is a bit overrated but still he is able to make good radio friendly music without watering it down too much, this 80s inspired album is quite good, boy george's track especially, d'angelo's well... not so much, but i still dig it, though it made me worried that he lost his voice and writing skills, but i hope not, paradoxically mark gave him the worst instrumental he had for this album, well it looks like it when you start to compare with the other stuff on "record collection"

i think d'angelo lost his market all over the years, neo-soul sound pretty much died in the mainstream in early 00s, look at how return of the ankh failed in the charts, only maxwell succeeded because of the really strong single... today they have this gnarls barkley, janelle monae type of funky uptempo black weirdo stuff which was started by outkast and still crossovers in US, i hope d'angelo will not just jump on the bandwagon since he likes "st. elswhere" and "back to black" and had supposedly collaborated with cee-lo (people are even saying that he sounds like him on "glass mountain trust"), ronson who worked on one of those albums is involved too, i definitely expect to hear something uptempo and funky from d' but with an original twist, he needs radio friendly songs too to make his comeback succeseful, even 10 years ago he sacrificed the conceptual voodoo sound to include his biggest hit "untitled" which sounds too polished compared to the other stuff on that album, i only wonder when we gonna hear the first single... probably if it doesn't appear until the end of october i doubt that the album will come out this year because the label needs the time to promote it, even maxwell's pretty wings came out in april but the whole album only in july

i hope that "james river" vibe is not gone... i revisit "1000 deaths" weekly since it leaked

Musically it sounds like the first pass (i'd like to hear a less trancey remix) it gets better from 1.04 and it's EXCELLENT from 2.00 music

Whoever is singing is channelling Bilal (in fact the vocalist sounds more like Bilal than D'angelo to me *shrug*)
