Bernadette Cooper

Drama According to...holy smokes, this thing is funky! I can't believe most of the world slept on this album (myself included). I just picked it up used for a cool $.80 and I am totally digging her. She's like a female Morris Day, all attitude and flash with lots of chops to back it up. Very inventive, very funny, excellent prduction and funky as hell. I never listened to Klymaxx, but I also just got their 1986 st album.

Anyone else digging Bernadette Cooper? Show some love...

I love me some Bernadette Cooper! She is fly as hell. I really like "I look good" but strangely I couldn't really get into the rest of the album. I might need to dig it out and give it another shot. I do love Klymaxx and Madame X though!!

I Look Good, Straight Jacket Love Affair was tight but like you stated much of the

album was a little hard to get into. I'll admit though it was different from stuff that

you were hearing around that time.

You're right, that album is definitely different and i'd say it's hard to categorize it.

the Madame X album is excellent. It was edgy, sexy with lots of attitude.....kinda like a late-80s version of Vanity 6.The song "I Want Your Body" is outrageous!

I hate the word "swagger", but I swear, whatever those dames were doing, it must be the personification of that long before it had a word sexy

That Madame X project is so unappreciated.

I paid a pretty penny for the album a few years ago on ebay but I was determined to get that cd as id worn the vinyl out

Drama was my favorite album that year! Hooks galore and comic bits throughout reminded me of early Prince and The Time albums. Plus Teena Marie on backing vocals! Great record.

The Drama According To.... is a fantastic album (not as good as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Klymaxx albums though...they are funk personified!!) but I loooooved the Madame X album (which I've played to death on vinyl...anyone know if it's available on CD?)

You never seem to hear of Bernadette anymore. Shame, she had a lot of style.

Someone told me she runs a second-hand "vintage" clothing store somewhere??

That was true...not sure if she's still running it though.

The band's MySpace has some newsy bits & recent vids: (new album in the works for the last 4 years)

Bernadette is also known to lurk this very board here @ The Org from time to time.

She showed up & sounded off last November in this massive thread about her & the band:

When I read "Bernadette Cooper", I had to look becuase I figured maybe somewhere in her career she put out some kind of pop album. I'm not a fan of Broadway type songs and I know that's her thing.... She....obviously, I was thinking of......

When I read her album was funky....I figured I had the wrong person.

Really? See I want to like this album more. I really need to give it another listen. A good friend of mine loves this album too. I still bump Klymaxx and Madame X all the time though.

Sadly, Oneof the Madame X girls died named Alisha Randolph. Bernadette Cooper produced her solo album which is pretty good. I wish Madame X would have done more music. They were fly as hell!

I've read that the Madame X album was released on CD, but it's very hard to find. I need to get that myself. I haven't played my vinyl copy in a long time.
