I knew those guys. Charlie Wilson produced a couple of their songs. One of them plays with the Bar-Kays and one plays with a lot of other folks. I haven't heard them in a long time.
You should have posted Tricky. That was their hit.
Next thing you know, you'll be posting Kwick songs. [Edited 9/26/10 13:39pm]

What are you trying to imply? I cant tell if you are throwing jabs or being friendly....
Speaking of the Bar-Kays and Kwick.
Thats about the only song I like from them.

No jabs, dude. I know a few of those cats. They are some bad ass musicians. Stuck Up was tight. I'll Get You Right was tight and their hit was Too Lonely To Be Alone.

Yeah, Slave-producer Jimmy Douglass produced their first album and Charlie produced their second on Mercuy, around 1988. He can even be heard in the background of "Start It Up"

"Stuck Up" sticks up high indeed, and side 2 of the LP is another treat with jams like "Will You" "I've Been Watching You (Watching Me)" and the earlier mentioned "I'll Get You Right" ... 80's mnplsound all over the place lol !

i remember visiting a recordfair eons ago and checked a box which happened to have not much funk or soul but was a general selection from pop/reggae/rock/classical-records. Then almost at the end of the box suddenly appeared a complete sealed copy of that first Skwares album. I must've had a real happy reaction on my face because when i wanted to pay for that great find, the seller asked 5$ instead of 21 $ for which it was originally priced ... i was like "... ... really ?" made my day
as mentioned earlier
a slight mix of early Slave-influences in can be heard in some of these tracks ... producer Jimmy Douglass had imo also an important input by producing Slave's sound
1986 & 1988

Great find. I missed to see that one on the tube. Incredible tight production by Charlie.

I see you talking about the fellow on the far left of the Start It Up album. Michael Anderson has been playing with them for about 15 years now. I would have never guessed he played with the Skwares if you hadn't mentioned it. [Edited 9/30/10 18:40pm] Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I've just found and purchased The Skwares first album on vinyl in a local second hand record shop.
Over the moon about it, great album.
Now to search for their second album!!!
