This is one of the few times I can't choose. I love them both equally.

Both versions are great but Ernie Isley's soaring guitar solo seals the deal for me. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I can say with 100% certainty that I never, EVER, under any circumstances expected to see 'Seals & Croft' in a thread title at the org.

Ernie makes you feel you arrived to some other place when he goes off.

There is something about the Seals & Croft version, that makes me remember my childhood. As much as I like the Isley's, they try and make it too much of an Isley's brother's song, instead of just a song that they chose to sing.

i was just discussing this very thing in the thread about john legend's remake of 'wake up everybody'.
is there really a point in a remake you're not going to bring your own spin to it? i think both versions are great, but only b/c the isley's brought their own 'a' game to the song. what would be the point of remaking it to sound like seals & crofts or a song that they chose to sing, which i will admit i have no idea what you mean by this statement (i mean, if they chose to sing it, then it would stand to reason that they would want to put their own 'isley' stamp on it, right)?

The Isley Brothers.
I love the original, but the Isleys <RandyJackson>took it and made it their own</RandyJackson>. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

You kiddin' me?
Back in the day, there used to be a dedicated Seals & Croft forum here at the org!
But the Mods eventually got tired of the incessant Seals vs. Croft flame wars.
Ben decided to replace it with Associated Artists & People.
There you have it, a little org history for you young'uns.

Me, too.
I didn't hear the Isleys' version 'til years later (a consequence of growing up in Wisconsin ), so the Seals and Crofts rendition reminds me of one of the last carefree summers I had as a kid before I started working during summer breaks from school. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I still haven't heard the Isleys' version, as far as I know. And I always thought the S&C version was the very definition of cheese. I somehow missed that type of music completely in the 70's and 80's. Only really ever heard it as other people's nostalgia, which I'm not generally a fan of.

Maybe that's why I hate the Beach Boys. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I don't hate them, but I'm pretty sure that's why I've never been able to get into their music.

I see. Oddly I began hearing the original version while going to school in the fall. Don't know why but I can always remember hearing it in my father's car whenever the oldies was playing lol

Listen to it NOW. It's been out almost 40 years and YouTube still lets you play it lmao

I know, I know! And it's right here in this thread. I'm just not moved to check it out because the original never did anything for me to begin with.

Ernie Isley kicks ass on that guitar, boy you better take a listen even if the lyrics are "sappy" for you.

I Much prefer the Original version...maybe because I grew up listening to it on the radio.....plus, never was much into the Isleys...
Outside of "It's Your Thing", "Between the Sheets"..I just dont care too much for them.......I feel bad to have to say that because I know they are legends, but for the most part I just dont like the lead vocalist's voice (I know, I should know his name...shame on me).
