no no no!

Teddy Pendergrass owned that song and it's still as powerful. Why bother with this mediocre remake when you can always have the best, the original recording that still holds up today.

I really like the album. I was lucky enough to win one of the vinyl copies of the album last week on that scavenger hunt he organized.

I don't care for John's vocals but Fiona is a treat. This still will always be known as Teddy's song.

co-sign with Bulldog.

As much as I try to dig this cover I can't. And I can't stand John Legend.

But I do like Melanie Fiona. She rocks.

John has played out rather quickly.

i always say about remakes: unless you're going to bring it to a new level, sit down and shut up. i always liked prince's 'i feel for you', but i can't deny chaka brought to a new level. same thing with stevie's 'we can work it out', or marvin's 'heard it thru the grapevine' (or was gladys' first?), aretha's respect.

any way, in all of these examples, the artist brought a new interpretation, put their own stamp on it in a way that makes you take notice, which is hard to do when the original stands on its own.

john legend, sit down and shut up! wink

I dug the new album... none of the covers are better than the original, but they are both good and, most importantly, different. I appreciate that they're not straight-up covers but offer a little bit of a different overall vibe.

Shine is also a nice soulful track, its the only original track on the album.

It's not bad. The harmonies on "...world won't get no better... if we just let it be.." sound wonky, but that seems to be because ol girl can't hit the high notes.

Then random Common rap. Wow.

It's ok. Nothing I'd be putting on repeat on the iPod. I don't think this would even make it TO the iPod honestly.
