"Winner Takes All" by The Isley Brothers

This was a bad ass jam and also a bad ass album from The Isley Brothers. With jams like "Winner Takes All", "I Wanna Be With You", "It's A Disco Night", and "Mind Over Matter", it was an ass shaker for sure.

Anybody into this one?

Andy is a four letter word.

One of my faves from the T-Neck years. Complete jam-fest.

Identity

The ballads and a few uptempo tracks saved this album from morphing into a generic, repetitive mess. Winner would have benefited from the exclusion of filler tracks like

"Go For What You Know" and "Mind Over Matter".

What were the low points of the album for you? I loved all the ballads on it.

The ballads are majestic and loving, as one would expect from the group. But the long uptempo songs grow tiresome and you soon realize the Isleys are repeating themselves.

Oh I see. I got your point. nod The ballads DID save the album.

I also have mixed feelings about this album. The highlights are plentiful but after awhile, things get tedious and ideas are repeated over and over.I feel the same way about Earth Wind and Fire's 'Faces' album. If you're gonna do a double album, you gotta branch out and experiement a little....just to keep it interesting.

I think the Isley's best album is 'Go For Your Guns'....a tight, focused album with absolutely no filer.

By Winner, their formula was starting to run dry.
