I'm thinking, and had always thought, Valerie was doing that to respect Tammi (and this is only backed up by her husband and Ludie Montgomery) and not to admit that Motown had forced her and Marvin to cut the duets together despite Tammi's condition.

That's what i think... she'll never admit it out of her love and respect for Tammi

You could see she's struggling with the explanation. She did say it with enough conviction for me to think "well she could be right, she was there" but then again SO WAS MARVIN. And Marvin was a little more vocal and upright about his shit whereas Valerie might've said Tammi was there to keep up the good nature of Motown. There had to be a rightful reason why Jeanne Montgomery felt Motown took her illness for granted.

yea she was struggling with her explanation and this wasnt no Black Box/Martha Wash situation, Tammi could sing i just don't think she was well enough to do her best.. it might be a blend of both of their vocals..

YES! That's why I kinda said earlier that Marvin & Valerie were both right. But it was more on Marvin's right because I definitely heard Valerie on the album but Tammi probably did contribute...somewhat. She's technically on the album ANYWAYS since two of the songs were Tammi solos with Marvin overdubbing.

I think Valerie did something similar to what Paul MacCartney did, on "Free As A Bird". He sang along with John's vocals to give it more support, being that it was from a cassette tape and John's vocals were in and out. I think the same could be said for Tammi and Valerie's situation. That being said, "The Onion Song", which is credited to Tami, sounds allot like Valerie.

You know Timmy. I am not too big on bio pic's lately, but there should be one about her. I think Taraji could pull it off...

Some of it was her, she does have some vocal training. Either way, I don't see this movie being made as long as Berry is alive. Look what he did to the first incarnation of the Marvin bio, the one with Jesse L. Martin.

I think the project just got canceled. No real news on it.

I don't know. I could've sworn they probably did and Tammi gave an account on the boys. Either that or I'm mistaken Tammi for Florence, who reported her rapist.

Florence never reported that rapist, I don't think. I could have sworn someone on the org said those boys were caught. Rape is still swept under the rug.

Also, if Tammi had lived, would Miss Ross have become as huge as she did?

I watched her "Unsung" @ Florence, she DID report it...unless you meant Tammi.

I can understand why she felt that way... But the Dr clearly said that he didnt believe that these reported beatings had anything to do with her tumor... Still a very sad story

Yeah and I can believe it. Especially if she had headaches going back to childhood. The truth is if she was hit with a hammer (as Martha Reeves for some odd reason said happened because Tammi told her apparently that she was hit with one as a teen in Philly), she'd be brain dead. So I doubt she was hit with a hammer.

And abuse towards someone does bring damage but not to the point where she had the tumor but the abuse surely didn't help matters especially when her main abusers were James Brown and David Ruffin. Marvin at one time said he kept a distance between him and James afraid he might beat him up for what James did to Tammi. I can imagine he wanted to beat David up for the same reason.

[Edited 9/21/10 11:10am]

See, that's the thing..

The family claimed that it was hereditary..

Should they take some of the blame as well?? hmmm

Yeah because they brushed it aside. Plus her momma was clinically depressed.

It's great to note however that despite her short life, Tammi DID live a full life. You didn't get a full version of it on "Unsung" but it was a good inclination that she did enjoy her life as long as she could and that she remain optimistic and driven even while dealing with so much bullshit. I can see how Marvin would be affected deeply by it I would've too. sad

nod That's exactly right Timmy. I just finished watching it, and I almost felt a tear come down my face. sad She seemed like this person who was just so full of life and energy even though her health was failing. I think somewhere near the end, she may have realized that she was never going to get better, but somehow, found the energy to stay positive despite of...especially with going through so many terrible things in her life, getting raped at 11, then having to deal with abusive relationships. That woman was truly a rock. The world would had truly been a different place had she still been living today.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

ok... i understand... thats why i used the word feisty ( she didn't appear to be a push over) type of girl

But she did allow herself to be abused so I don't know. I mean she had a lot of sides to her personality (like Florence Ballard). Both of them appeared to be feisty but it was only to combat from the pain they suffered in their childhoods. It festered when they got older.

Yup and Florence was raped as a teen as well. I never really thought about the similarities between her and Tammi. hmmm

Ahh man, was listening closely...in the beginning it sounds like it's Tammi because the voice is soft but feels like there's a slight weakness to it..as it goes on the voice gets strong, sounds exactly like Tammi, but when you get to like the middle, it's like the whole aura of the voice is changed...I think this is where Val's voice comes in.

Oh she would be perfect for the role...the feisty, and sassy attitude...yet dealing with abuse, then fighting back...oh that role has Taraji written all over it. nod She even looks similar to Tammi...they both have those bulging, beautiful eyes.

Yeah I noticed that too, how she had this defensive yet, "let me stay as calm as I can" type look in her face...tripping over her words, lol. Though the narrator was saying that Val was denying it, she really didn't deny it 100%. I've always believed what Marvin said in his book because..well...especially after Tammi died...he just didn't give a fuck. That's why the "What's Going On" album was a big finger in Berry's face. Berry ain't never been nothing but a crook in a suit anyway...him and that damn Smokey.

nod

More I hear her, it's like she's trying to deny it for Tammi's sake but if what she said was the gospel then she wouldn't have looked like she was sweating bullets. Even Nicholas had that look of "girl the jig is up. Marvin wasn't lying." lol

Yeah it does... Valerie makes it sound like Tammi was all over the vocals but she might've just been singing WITH Marvin in unison while Valerie had to sing the rest of the songs so if Tammi made her input that way I can see what she means but she's in that album whether or not she wants to admit it or not.
