My man, i respect your passion, you know that. I was a full on fan at one point, in the vein as all you guys, attending events etc. I knew my Michael stuff.

It's not about who played what etc, you're right (but, it's a huge factor to determine talent), but Mikes tracks don't hit deep with many, like me, because he was a pop artist at heart. His musical compositions are not that great (nor at times his own entirely) when compared to others because that was not him and that bars him from competing with people who can do more than him...These are the others who give ME that feeling you describe. Mikes music doesn't carry the incredibly creative musicianship, the deep poetry driven lyrics i can find elsewhere. He isn't THAT kind of an artist.

Mike gave us the best of pop music (and even that's arguable as top pop tunes were produced from a source that also did more artistic things with actual musicianship and created most of it all alone wink lol) that relied on catchy melodies and hooks, with some "deeper" more indulgent stuff, sparsely along the way. There isn't much musicianship nor room to be challenged. Lyrics were so-so too....These are my judgements based on what i know of today.

It says it all when i say i was in all your places and then discovered the real deals later in my life. I got deeper. I'm not putting a downer on MJ here, merely trying to explain why some don't see it your way....or at least anymore.

I wouldn't know about all that because I hate MJ fan events lol

plus I have a deep disdain for MJ impersonators lol

Billie Jean

Cheater

Crack Kills

Remember The Time

An Innocent Man

D.S

Palestine

Money

God Don't Love Us Anymore

Bad

I've been busy with school and life in general so I've haven't had time to really do much research lately

I agree. Smile had me tearing up along with Call On Me and One Day In Your Life

Before he passed, I was going through his catalog and had to say "wow" because this man's catalog is one of the most impressive I've listened to. One thing I wish people understood (especially on this forum), is that it's not always about who wrote the song, or played the instruments on it, but it's about the feeling it gives the listener, and that's why Michael was able to connect with so many people around the world

My man, i respect your passion, you know that. I was a full on fan at one point, in the vein as all you guys, attending events etc. I knew my Michael stuff.

If that's your opinion that's cool, but i can rebut that. Writing a simple song that is effective is a gift it doesn't need to be symphonically complex or have major ninths and 13ths all the time. Mike was blessed with songwriting talent and he had it since he was a teenager. His lyrics were often taken to task, usually by white critics who pan everything "intellectual" with black artists, meaning they'll usually praise the music and dismiss they lyrics. That's usually just veiled stereotyping in my mind because all the artists who's lyrics I've seen panned like Jimi, Prince or Michael could write lyrics at least as good as their white counterparts and often better. Mike's songs Billie Jean, his stuff from off the wall and Bad were always the best stuff over the top songwriters who he hired to bring songs. As a rule, I generally don't like people who sing without learning an instrument but guys like Sinatra, Elvis to a degree and Michael are exceptions. They did enough, they didn't need to play 50 intruments and write thousands of songs. And your Prince reference is not accurate, no one really knows how much stuff was his stuff except the people around him, Andre Cymone, the Revolutions, The Time and dozens of musicians over the years had a hand in Prince's musical creations. Rumours of him taping jam sessions of people and stealing ideas go back to the early days, anyway, no one is an island, you can believe that if you want though.

He kept the beat. They didn't have a drum kit backl then. Just two guitars and percussion instruments. This was before Joe got Jermaine a bass too obviously.

Who do tou think is doin the blues licks, Joe or Tito? I'm huessing Joe.

Superstition

Man, October better fly by. I'm dying to know the tracklist and to hear some of this new music. I'm not really too picky here, just hoping for post-HIStory material adding up to something resembling a studio album.

Personally, I love the snippets of Another Day and A Place With No Name. I also enjoyed Hold My Hand (yes, I admit it). If there's a version of Hold My Hand with fewer Akon vocals and more MJ vocals, that would be a perfect fit. I do hope there is at least one non-cheesy ballad though. As much as I love Dangerous (in my top three albums of all time), it was in need of one non-Heal The World-style ballad, something along the lines of Someone Put Your Hand Out or You Are Not Alone.

Can't wait for this.

I went to an MJ fan event once. It was at the Hammersmith Palais in London, about 5 years ago.

I seem to recall it was while the trial was ongoing or perhaps just afterward.

Jeffrey Daniel was there and Adrian Grant hosted the event.

It was.... a little strange to say the least. Most of the people there do not live in the real world, you could say.
