Jam of the Day: "Heartbeat" by Taana Gardner

This Larry Levan jam for Taana Gardner was great. I love those heartbeats and claps in the middle and at the beginning and then the bass kicks in. It just makes the ass want to move on it's on.

Oh GOD how I hated this songs, still hate it to this day. But I have to admit I was one of the few who didn't love it,; when this song came on everyone flew to the dance-floor.

It was ubiquitous in it's own time....was EVERYWHERE that summer. You knew it was ON when a track spawned it's own rap knock-off...

  • Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick - "La Di Da Di", 1985 (vocal sample: "hit it")
  • Taana Gardner - "Heartbeat", 1981 (drums and bass)

That's the first version I remembered too. I didn't hear the original until I was like ten.
