Sony Postpones George Michael's Faith Reissue

September 17, 2010

The re-release of George Michael's classic album Faith has been postponed after the singer was jailed for driving while under the influence of drugs.

The remastered and extended Faith package had been due to hit stores in the United Kingdom on Sept. 27. No new release date has yet been announced, although Amazon's U.K. store now lists a Jan. 31, 2011 release date.

An official statement about the release is expected to be issued on Michael's Web site later today (Sept. 17), but a source within Sony Music denied tabloid reports that the label was distancing itself from the star, who is no longer under contract to Sony.

"We're very supportive of George," said the source. "'Faith' was a culturally important album for Sony Music and we want to do the right thing by him. He may not be signed to us any more but he'll remain important to us forever."

Faith initially released in 1987, was Michael's debut album as a solo artist. It hit No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic and went on to sell a reported 20 million copies worldwide.

Michael was sentenced to eight weeks in jail on Sept. 14 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and possession of cannabis following a July 4 collision between his car and a Snappy Snaps store in north London.

He needs rehab. Seriously this is just embarrassing for him now. I almost feel badly for him..but I can't because he's rich. Get your shit together already, this madness with the drugs and what not has been going on for years. Enuff already.

Sony (no doubt, rightly) fears the negative publicity surrounding George will have a negative impact on long-term sales. Thus they pulled it from release.

Heres what i got...

Sony Music and George Michael's management have decided to postpone the release of the re-mastered "Faith" album. A new release date will be forthcoming. For those fans that have purchased the Limited Edition Box Set from GeorgeMichael.com, receipt will be subject to a delay until the new release date has been set.
