really can't stand this guy. I don't find him funny at all. so perhaps he's perfect for a dramatic role. he's kinda-sorta close to looking like Mercury.

but -- and don't stomp my ass into the ground for this -- but does Queen actually have an interseting story to tell if it stops before Mercury's death? I'm not being a dick about it, I really don't know anything about Queen other than generally enjoying some of their music. I know a little bit more about Mercury and I can see a biopic about him, based on his background, his flamboyance, and his death.

but does Queen, as a band, have a story worth turning into a biopic without Mercury's death as its ending?

I think because they didn't put their private lives in people's business it helps to make a more intriguing story into what was probably going on between the four. From all accounts though they did argue a lot while working on their classics they had a tight bond up until the death of Freddie. But I'm thinking the movie will center more around Freddie though rather than the other guys but hey that's how it was in the original Queen.

I think this film is more meant for the world than just the USA, Queen werent a huge group here and so something like this might not be a big deal here, but considering Queen sold about 200 million albums overseas, i think theres interest in the band there, here is another story. Just like they are doing a biopic on Inxs frontman Michael Hutchence, the film is going to only open in the UK and Australia not the US

difference being I imagine they are actually going to cover the death of Michael Hutchence in the movie about him, right?

my point is, without the tragic ending of the Queen story (and no, I don't mean Paul Rogers being the front man), is there a dramatic narrative worth making a movie out of?

good point; the movie will be focused on Freddie and the HIV thing, that's for sure, Hell, if the movie is 2 hours long, you can bet that it will start with Freddie already infected, and basically remembering his life/career through flashbacks: the bizarre beginnings of Queen, the Bohemian Rhapsody-We Are the Champions-Another One Bites the Dust glory days, the lack of support during the early 80s and the "gay" controversy, the Live Aid comeback and...the HIV infection...

If it ends in 1985, I doubt it. I don't know if they would touch it. You know how biopics make a glossy depiction of someone's life. It's never to the nitty gritty but for Hollywood purposes.

yeahthat

Coupled with the fact that AIDS/HIV still get the "hush hush" treatment from the media, esp when a high profiled person is/was one of its victims,,,,,amazingly rolleyes

Well, I'll be surprised if Hollywood doesn't treat this Queen biopic as a high concept: "Philadelphia meets Walk the Line"...

then again, if it ends in 1985, the movie will be a mess, it would be like a biopic of Elvis without the 1972-77 controversies: a wasted opportunity...

Can we wait for the final product first before we throw in the towels?

Again, it all depends on the director, and the screen writer seemed like he dealed with his previous projects with sensitivity and grace, who knows, maybe this may turn out to be good for everybody.

I'm with you that his last years should be considered, but then again, I think the years before 1985 were just as interesting and they shaped the person that he was.

His rehearsals of "I Got a Woman" and "Hit the Road Jack" on the piano in his homes were definitely Jamie's. nod

as far as I remember, the soundtrack of the film included Ray's originals only... hmmm but I don't remember those rehearsals, I should definitely watch the film again anyway, even if it bored me (slighty), like 90% of the biopics I've seen...

Check these scenes:

When Ray performs that Nat "King" Cole song in the beginning of his career.

When Ray rehearses "I Got a Woman" after making love to "Bee".

When Ray rehearses "Hit the Road, Jack" with an angry Margie.

That's Jamie's voice. nod
