I adore Take That. They so deserve the success they're having since their reunion. They are the best pop act in the world right now. The last CD they released in America was royally fucked up by Arista and Clive Davis. Labels executives should stick to what they know and leave the music making to the artists.
Robbie, on the other hand, I can take him or leave him. His last CD was decent but I think that had more to do with Trevor Horn's production. I usually skip over the TT tracks Robbie sings lead on. He sounds out of place on their records. Perhaps I'm just used to him not being there. Robbie is the Bobby Brown of Take That. Him coming back would only fuck up a good thing.

Yass! I loved their 90s hit "Back For Good," their last hit song with Robbie I think. I used to have a thing for lead singer Gary Barlowe.

The tracks were recorded a year ago in NYC... it was big news at the time that RW was back in the studio. Their tour next year with Robbie is a 20th anniversary tour, including what is expected to be a record breaking number of nights in their hometown at the City Of Manchester Stadium.
Btw, Robbie is only on a 12 month contract with Take That. They have the option not to work together again once they've completed the tour which will also include playing for The Queen at her 60th Jubilee concert & the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games where they will be performing for a potential audience of billions.

I'm pretty sure his biggest US hit is "Angels." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

This reminded me of his video for "Feel", filmed years earlier in the same Canadian rockies as Brokeback Mountain.

Eh-eh, Millennium was his biggest her in the States.

You must be talking about Mexico. Here in the USA:
"Millennium" Hot 100 Peak: 72 "Angels" Hot 100 Peak: 41
"Millennium" was a bigger hit in Canada, FWIW. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

It still was played heavily here in the States, too.

Yes, it's his 2nd-biggest US single (and the only one besides "Angels" to make the Hot 100). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It may have been his 2nd biggest single, but "Millenium" got more radio play than "Angels". I can't recall ever hearing "Angels" on the radio. "Get up off that grey line"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Of course, that would only be relevant if you actually listened to every second of every radio station across the country at that time. "Angels" was a bigger hit than "Millennium" in America across the board, sales and airplay included (with the notable exception of MTV plays). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I had such a problem with Take That when I was a teenager. I think it's because I did the whole boyband thing and grew out of it much earlier than most girls, so I was in to NKOTB when I was 9-10 and by the time I was 12 I didn't enjoy that stuff at all - and Take That first hit big when I was 12.
Looking back now apart from awfully shit songs like 'Sure', they were a special boyband compared to a hell of a lot of the ones that came since. They may have been manufactured, but bringing in Gary Barlow who was first and foremost a songwriter was the best thing to do.
Most boybands just kind of grow into "writing" their own songs by their second or third album just to feign some kind of credibility. That usually means sitting in with their existing writers and changing some words in the studio, occasionally coming up with some either terrible or cliched lyrics. Gary Barlow was a proper burgeoning songwriter from the get go.
I still haven't got any of their albums and have only bought a few of their singles since the comeback on iTunes - Rule The World is awesome. I would like to go to one of their latest live shows though. They really look great.
A great moment here:
