Lauryn Hill: "New Album Coming Soon"

Sep 2010

Lauryn Hill has revealed that she is "getting closer" to releasing her first solo studio album in more than 10 years.

In a recent interview with MTV.com, Hill explained that the follow-up to 1998's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is currently in the works. She says she is "excited about what the future holds," adding, "I have to upgrade songs a bit so that they're still exciting, fresh and new."

She also disclosed that the album would not feature many collaborations.

"I have respect for what people do,": she said. "I respect the different sounds that I'm hearing. It's been such a long time since I've gotten my voice and my ideas [out]. In terms of collaborations, that's not even something I've been thinking about per se."

Hill most recently appeared on all four performances of the touring Rock the Bells Festival.

I have more faith in Lauryn's album being released than Detox ever getting a release.

Great decision thumbs up!

Whether this album will or won't be release won't be her fault at this point, it will be Sony's. We know their history of shelving non-radio friendly projects like Maxwell's original "Blacksummernights" and Lauryn Hill's "Khulami Phase".

I gotta disagree, in this day and age, especially if your a superstar of Lauryn's caliber, you can def get a Guaranteed Release section in your recording contract. One that allows the artist to bolt to another company, or go the indie route, in case a major label wants to shelve it. Problem is Artist don't read their contracts, and never ask for it.
