Yes, I've seen it twice, and the one with Patti, was my second time. Patti's voice was pretty much under control, and quite frankly, was not as though she was singing at a concert, where she let's loose, which singing in a concert is much different than when you're in a broadway role. I think people need to understand that Patti has to stay within the musical's script, so it's not like her range was that much different than what Lillias White did. I would say she kept her voice pretty much within the same range as Lillias White.

It'd be worth it to see again to hear what she does with it. Lillias White is amazing but I've heard from friends that she can be...difficult. So I'm glad they've got Patti if it makes the production smoother for them in any way.

That role really only has two big moments, and I have to admit, it's the first one (Trouble Sleep) that really broke my heart when Lillias performed it. It's that one that I'm having trouble imagining Patti doing, rather than the big song she gets to do in the second act (for some reason, I just never liked the song...it's decent but somewhat underwhelming to me).

The second song is called "Rain". I have to agree, that it is long winded, but yes, the character she plays does not have a large part, because its intention is to focus on Fela's life and music, and how he used his music as a weapon, to raise awareness and stand up against the Nigerian government and military, but because his mother was the influence in his life and tried to make him understand why it was important for him to be aware and concerned what the Nigerain government was doing to its people That show energizes me, and I love the way the actor brings "Fela" alive for the moment. I know I will see it again, becuase I want other people I know to see it too.

Another pic, after Patti's debut night starring in "Fela" on Broadway.

http://www.broadway.com/s...he-family/

File this one under "once in a lifetime"! One legend joined another on stage when R&B superstar Patti LaBelle took over the role of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti in Broadway’s Fela!. LaBelle is playing the mother of Fela Kuti, a legend in his own right as pioneer of Afrobeat music. She joined the show on September 14 and was welcomed to the cast in high style. After her debut performance, the Grammy winner celebrated with her new Fela! family, including choreographer Bill T. Jones and the show’s co-producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

What has happened to Jada's face? Is it a lack of fatty tissue or is it surgery?

I see nothing wrong with her face. That was the same night I was at the show, and her and Will looked great. Jada seems to keep herself in shape.

Compare the above face to this one: http://poponthepop.com/fi...-smith.jpg

She just doesn't look the same...not saying she looks bad.

Jada just turned 39.
