Roland TR-808 Accents question

Well I was watching a demonstration of the Roland 808 machine on the 'Tube and I was looking for the snare that sounds like the ones in No Ones Gonna Love You // Hanging On A String..so I found out that the 'accent' button on the machine is the one that actually creates the snappy handclap sound.

The problem is...there is no function like that on what I use to make my beats; so what is the alternative for the accent? Anyone know what I mean here?

As far as I know, the accent button just makes the sound louder, but due to the way those machines were built it also may change the tone a little bit.

This page has different variations of the clap sound. Maybe one of them is close to what you are looking for. You'll need to edit it yourself and then import it into the drum machine or program you're using.

I'd just edit the sound myself to suit the need by using EQ and fade out curves.

Thank you very much!!! I have some inspiration again to start composing frequently..even if it is old equipment!

Try changing the pitch and/or pan level (if it's on there.)
