Aphex Twin - Avril 14th ~ An absolute gorgeous piece of music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1Vj38dExzc&fmt=18 (Don't know how to embed) Warp Records are seriously owners of the most promising talent today. Recently made a bit more popular by closing the most groundbreaking British movie of 2010, Four Lions. My heart melts. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

My favorite ambient track on Druqks! About half of everything Rich has ever done (A LOT!) is insanely beautiful. I kinda worship this guy. He's actually officially done with WARP, though. He could certainly release more music with them as Aphex Twin, but he fulfilled his contractual obligations. At one point he said he was going to stick with the AFX moniker and just release music on Rephlex (his label). So far that's what he's done, but not just as AFX.

I remember seeing your avatar before and knew you would reply lol He left Warp? Didn't know that. Could you point me in the direction of more of his ambient work that could be similar to this? I'm going to use this one and potentially others in short films. This piece is just mesmerising. Utterly beautiful. Thanks for embedding the video. He didn't so much leave WARP as fulfill his contract. Which sounds weird for an electronic act on what was actually a pretty small label when he started with them. I'd guess it has something to do with the amount of copies he sells. He could definitely still release music with them and it won't surprise me if he does.
However, he said that after Drukqs that he was going to focus on being AFX and running Rephlex (his label). The first thing he released that's admitted to be him following Drukqs was the eleven Analord twelve inches under the AFX name. Available ONLY on vinyl, each of them sold in five figure numbers (the exact figures are still unknown, I believe). So at this point he doesn't really need the kind of backing (and costs) that WARP supplies. Probably hasn't for a long time, actually. People are pretty obsessive about picking up whatever is released on Rephlex.
He hasn't released anything under any of his old names since the Analords in 2005. But the two EPs credited to The Tuss on Rephlex in 2007 are widely accepted as being him. Who knows what else he's snuck out there...

As far as tracks that sound like Avril 14th, there really aren't any. The closest you're going to find are the other "ambient" tracks on Drukqs. Nothing else that he's released sounds exactly like anything on Druqks. He's done other fast, hard stuff, and pieces that are much more ambient than these (in the true sense of the word, these are more prepared piano pieces - and they weren't actually played, rather programmed for the midi-controlled Yamaha Disklavier), but they don't sound remotely the same. Drukqs is kind of it's own beast.
This first two tracks are the ones that have a bit of the same meloncholy. There really isn't anything as beautiful as Avril 14th on the album, though. IMO.
Tons of other ambient/chill music from Rich, though. I'll post some for sure. Also, everything he does is copied by 1000 other people. So I can definitely post music, or give you artist names, that sound just like this stuff.

Nannou, which sounds nothing like Nanou 2. I just wanted to listen to it.

Rich and his tank. Yes, he bought a tank. Quite a long time ago, actually.

Some actual ambient choons. The names for the tracks on SAW II are all made up because it was issued with no song titles. Two cds, two cassetes or three lps - no song titles. It's all very confusing actually, as this first peice - more commonly known as #19 - wasn't even included on all the releases. It is one of my five single favorite peices of music in all the world, though. And I can't explain it - it just is.

CD only track from the Analogue Bubblebath 3 album titled Analogue Bubblebath 3, but really it's untitled.
Trance Europe Express version of the same track...
Play them together at different starting points with different volume levels.

It was definitely a nice way to waste a couple hours. I'm going to try and post a couple more batches before this thread slips off the first page. I don't pay any attention to anything beyond that point.

WOW! That's a lot of stuff lol! I've been busy lately on a bloody production set i don't wanna be on lol, but i checked out the 1st batch so far (plan to get through them all) and they were fantastic!! That album is a dream. I really liked the music box experiment with accompanying artsy video, really great! I've heard some of his acidy trance stuff and although different, not entirely sure that's me. I can appreciate it though. From what you say, he sounds quite the character. Well, this is a great contribution (a thread hijack in all it's glory! haha) and a change from the GaGa/Mj esq drivel that's mostly posted around here. I will check those others out ASAP and also, make sure you recommend the others that produce similar atmospheric ambiant tracks. Thanks!
