No shades of gray, as you say.

But Ms.Trina, when you decide to release a book, don't trick a bitch and say its a tell-all autobiography and then fuck around about which state/city have the best burger stand, name every female singer with a smart ass phrase following, and a bunch of gibberish that don't have shit to do with the price of scrambled eggs in the nearest beds n' breakfast :loll: own up to what you promised to deliver or like you say, let sleeping dogs lay and don't release a book.

And what was your issue with Ray? hmmm I'm glad they didn't base it on his autobiography because even though his book was better than Urethra by MILES(his sense of humor really carried the book), it wasn't heartfelt like say Marvin's Divided Souls or Etta James' Rage to Survive,,,,David Ritz dug deep into his subjects, but I guess he was allowed one big mistake when he worked with ReRe.

She got your $21.95? lol Sista Franklin book should've been called, Aretha, My Life Viewed through A Greasy Spoon. That's what I meant, Franklin shouldn't have bothered and leave the pic alone as well.

As far as Ray's bio pic. Damn where do I start. Needless to say I hate, "We All Lived Happily Ever After" bullshit Hollywood endings. Ray Charles was never severally traumatized by the lose of his eyesight nor his bother's death, it was his mom death (Aretha) at the age of 15 while he was away at school that was devastating. Yes, he brother death and losing his eyesight was painful, but Charles said himself if he ever had or even came close to a nervous breakdown, it was the death of his mother. He did drugs because that's what everyone was doing at the time and he thought he try i and then got hooked. The other thing, brotha Ray had two mothers who helped raise him, his biological mom (Aretha) and his father's wife whom he called Mother. Aretha was the one who pushed him to to be independent but "mother" was more of the nurture; Charles spoke often about both women and how important they in his life.

The portrayal of David "Fathead" Newman is patently false, he wasn't a load mouth Mr. Newman was actually painfully shy and his "side-kick role" to Ray Charles sound is a travesty, Mr. Newman was more than a damn side-kick. They never spoke about the superb musical education Charles received at State School For the Blind, where he learned to play Chopin, music theory, arranging, and to play piano and clarinet. Of course my biggest issue, Ray Charles, Jazz discography has been totally ignored and if you read my liner notes from my defunct Org Mix-Tape you know this pisses me off. lol Before Jimmy Smith & Big Band recordings there was brotha Ray.

The divorce between Della and Charles was a knock down, bitter, nasty, and protracted fight. And... he switched from "smack" to quart of gin a day and weed ; Charles always said, whatever he did to his body was his business, he died from cirrhosis of the live and hepatitis C.

Thank alot for making me upset. lol

[Edited 9/13/10 18:01pm]

Well, merde eek lol

I can def attest to what you said. Being familiar with Brother Ray's music prior to the movie, I knew Mr.Newman's discography stood on its own legs(in fact, wasn't he the one who taught Ray who to play the Sax?), the movie did sell him short.

I didn't know about his charade with Della, thats a shame though,,,it ruined what was painted to me through the film.

lol Girl, at the end, there was no love lost between Della and Ray, none. Surprise, surprise Charles was uh ho' . . . a super ho' and for most of that marriage he was living with one woman or other.

I think the only reason she didn't pick Beyonce, and I bet she probably would have, if Beyonce didn't refer to Tina Turner during a tribute on a show, as the Queen of Soul (?). Acutally Aretha was upset and fired off a open letter to let everyone know she was upset, But Beyonce called Tina "The Queen" and Re Re lost her mind ( she didnt say Queen Of Soul)

Oh okay, thanks for clearing that up.

Aretha needs to get a clue from Tina Turner and the makers of her bio-pic--pick an actress that will do her and her story justice like the makers of Tina's movie did...

Halle? Seriously? I'm speechless. How old is Halle now, 45? Not that, that's the only or the most prominent awkwardness to the choice but seriously and what point is in her life is this biopic suppose to be taking place? Egos sure are big.

It does seem like a fantasy cast, doesn't it? It seems unlikely to me, too, especially when you're talking ALL well-known actors. Besides that, no disrespect, but there are many actors who could play her way better than Halle and Regina King (as someone else suggested) would be at the top of that list for me.

Here's a kicker: Jerry Lee Lewis, Tina Turner, Ray Charles and Johnny Cash's bios were a bunch of revisionist bullshit too. However, we must separate the mediums, a good film does not equal a good bio. Just saying....

Granted, Aunt ReRe was a FOX in her day, but I don't want either Halle or Loudmouth Hudson to portray her.

And I disagree with Sos about Ree being a brickhouse mentally, the woman wore her heart & insecurities on her sleeve.

To be honest though, this is not the issue, the issue is the MYSTERY of Aretha Franklin's story. The book wasn't truthful AT ALL about her upbringing or the circumstances she has been through in her career, and I'm afraid if Aretha took charge of the project it would be another ego feeding bullshit instead of an objective honest straight-to-the-chase story.

I was actually focusing more on how Jennifer fits her physically to portray her. I just think she picked Halle, because she wants an A-lister and an eyecatcher to play her. You know, Aretha and her Diva issues.lol

I think the only reason she didn't pick Beyonce, and I bet she probably would have, if Beyonce didn't refer to Tina Turner during a tribute on a show, as the Queen of Soul (?). I believe that is what Beyonce did, and I heard Aretha called Beyonce on that, and was pissed about it, because Aretha has always been crowned the Queen of Soul. [Edited 9/13/10 11:53am]

And I am thrilled that that happened if for no other reason. Beyonce would try to "re-create" Aretha's classics, except without the soulful singing and stuff, and then she'd try to put the songs into her repertoire like she did when she played Etta James. No thank you.

Halle can act, but she's never been a very soulful actress. She can do high-drama but she doesn't show a lot of personality beyond that, IMO. I cracked up when I read Aretha wanted Halle to play her, though. Everyone on the radio program I was listening to got a kick out of that.

Sista Franklin is delusional, they better do an open casting call, in my opinion even Jenniefer Hudson would be a stretch.

Aretha truly pisses me off. The Queen thing has truly gone to her head. Why is she so adamant about Halle playing her? Did Shamu have other obligations?
