I'm looking for recommendations of albums in this vein that may has passed me by.

I think most of the Prince Protege albums are great and for the most part are Pop Funk.

You list Madame X so I think you should check out Bernedette Copper's solo album The Drama According To.

Another one to check out is Lushus Daim And The Pretty Vain / More Than You Can Handle. Highly enjoyable Funky Dance Pop from start to finish and free of any crap ballads.
