While I do agree there is much room for more, there has been ONE Asian Superstar...

His name was Bruce Lee!!

And you know that's right. headbang Jackie Chan is #2. However I think this thread is referring to music stars. smile

In that case......2 answer your question: No, the world will not have an Asian singing superstar.

Nope, but I just remembered that Jackie Chan actually DOES do music. He's a singer and has released several albums in Hong Kong over the years. lol I think he's done about 15 or more records, and people really like his music over there.

It's funny. Here in the UK and in Europe, Asian = Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi

We don't use the word Asian to refer to Chinese/Japanese/Korean etc people.

For example, we have the radio station BBC Asian Network - plays Bollywood, Bhangra, Urban Asian music, etc.

I always have to remind myself when I'm in the US that when someone's talking about Asian they'll be referring to Japanese/Chinese people lol.

nod I think Jackie Chan does fit the category... he's an actor that sings... rather than a singer that acts...

also another thing... North America and Europe are kind of a bit disconnected entertainment wise from the rest of the world...

I wouldn't be surprised if Asian pop stars are popular in Africa and South America... bollywood for example is popular in those areas too...

If he plays his cards right, Rain (a singer and actor from South Korea) could be the superstar but who knows? I think Rain was in a movie that was released here but the name escapes me.

First i have to say that Asia has the biggest market so there is no need to have to appeal to the USA market, i dont see an asian artist having that universal appeal in other markets, its similar to the latin market, occasionally there is a huge crossover but that market also can stand on its own without a huge usa following. And alot of american artists, survive on that Asian market, i mean look at AIr Supply, they have been royality in that market.

Asian pop is awful. Period. A copy of the sith-dance/shit-hop of the US or just plain BAD pop/rock...

Mr.Sakamoto was successful in the UK in the 80s and early 90s, and HIGHLY respected as a film score artist. You can clearly see that many Asian countries make excellent roots/folklore music or amazing "ambient/instrumental" music. But the asians suck monkey balls when they try to do american/british pop/rock/dance...

Asian Superstars?

- Nancy Ajram

- OUM KALTHOUM

- Sunidhi Chauhan

I know these people are middle eastern and/or Indian. I don't care. It's about time people started recognizing that "Asians" aren't only of the Japanese/Chinese/Korean etc persuasian.

If you're trying...in a round about way to refer to my posting of Bruce Lee and the subsequent references of Jackie Chan. Your assessment is inaccurate because I did not and do not think of Bruce Lee, just because of his phenomenal Martial Arts ability.

Bruce Lee was, is and always will be a Superstar in my eyes and that has very little to do with his phenomenal Martial Arts ability.

I think he was a phenomenal person...period! And I weep because we lost him before the world really saw that in him.

Check out the documentary, that I happen to keep on my iPod, btw..."How Bruce Lee Changed The World". He really did and wasn't even trying. Just imagine what he could have accomplished...had he lived and actually had tried! hmmm

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

YES! My baby daddy!! With his sexy ass!! I could post pictures of him ALL DAMN DAY. He was in hthe movie Ninja Assassin, that came out last November, and he was in Speed Racer.

YES.

The moment I read the title of this thread I immediately thought of Rain. I'm really surprised he's not well known in the US. I've been a fan of his since like 2006.

I want people to stop sleeping on him lol

Did you see the "dance off" between him and Stephen Colbert? Rain can actually DANCE nod

And he rejected Megan Fox, so he has taste thumbs up!

Yes he is.

Yeah, but for some reason people from India aren't considered Asian I guess. I suggested once that Norah Jones was the most successful Asian artist in the US and lots of people disagreed with me.

her dad was also something of a superstar, especially in the 60's, though he was not a pop singer certainly!

mancabdriver

Freddie Mercury - was indian - from a parsi background

Norah Jones - Is half Indian

Jay Sean - Is British Asian (but NO WAY should be called a "superstar" - his music sucks!)

MIA - Is Sri Lankan

Oriental stars are lacking but what about that Bruno Mars fella? What is he?
