Will Smith's daughter signs record deal

[img:$uid]http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/49050000/jpg/_49050547_willowsmith_224.jpg[/img:$uid]

Will Smith's nine-year-old daughter, Willow, has signed a record deal with rapper Jay-Z's label Roc Nation.

Her first single, Whip My Hair, has already been viewed nearly a million times on YouTube since its release in the US this week.

Jay-Z told US radio host Ryan Seacrest he thought she would be a "superstar".

"I heard the record first before I knew it was recorded by a nine-year-old and I was like, 'man that record's a smash'."

The rapper, who compared Willow with a young Michael Jackson, said: "She has a child's innocence but she has a clear vision of who she is and who she wants to be."

However the rapper - who signed R&B artist Rihanna when she was a teenager - brushed aside suggestions that the nine-year-old may be too young to launch a music career.

"When you have that sort of talent, there is no such thing as too young," he said.

In a statement, Roc Nation said Willow had "an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious" adding it was "rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age".

It is not Willow's first foray into show business - she appeared in 2007's I Am Legend with her father.

She also voiced a character in animated film Madagascar 2.

Her 12-year-old brother, Jaden, starred in the remake of The Karate Kid earlier this year.

...dudes, really?

I thought this was going to be a BAD song. It sounds no different than most of the stuff that's out there. No matter what she has signed on to or what the pics look like, or who her paents are....um...all I'm hearing is a kid who's got the chance to do something lots of little girls want to do. If I had that same chance to sing about something at her age, I'd be singing about whatever was hot in 1994.... lol

My goodness. Give the kiddo a break. More than likely she will lose interest and move on to something else. While I personally am not in love wtih music that sounds like this, I don't see the harm in it. You guys are going pretty hard on a lil girl.

Did y'all catch that bit in Ryan Seacrest's interview when he was asking her about what the song meant? Her answer was something like "It's about individuality because people who aren't themselves aren't happy." Which is one of the basic tenets of Scientology.

Lawd, if this child starts talking about thetans and Xenu, I'ma have a pure-d FIT!

It wouldn't surprise me! They forced their own beliefs on their children who just regurgitate them back up.

I don't feel bad criticizing a 9 year old because she sucks. If she was good, I would praise her. Shanice and Jazmine Sullivan are examples of bad-asses when they were around that age. Willow sounds like every other chick on the radio. No style, no flavor, no anything. If this is her passion and she's so wise beyond her years, why is she doing such formulaic music? Yeah there is money in formulaic music but she doesn't need money. Her parents are filthy rich.

Well, I'm no Scientologist, never have been, never will be but I do happen to agree that "People who aren't themselves aren't happy." Truth be known, I've felt that way since I was a kid just about little Willow's age so I don't think Scientology has anything to do with her statement but even if it does, so what? shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I don't know if I would make the connection with the Smiths' supposed connection to Scientology with the song's message. shrug

Madonna's daughter Lourdes is peddling a retro 80's Juniors clothing line for Macys. Why? She damn sure is no Coco Chanel, by any stretch of the imagination! She's doing it because Madonna is her mother and she can! How come no one is complaining about that blatantly obvious nepotism or whichever beliefs Madonna has this month, that she's forcing on her children? hmmm

Exactly. I could care less about her whether she's 9 or 29. She should be at home playing with some dolls instead of being dolled up playing pop-star. Its disgusting. It be different if this was some talented poor or middle class child but she's basically a 9 year-old Paris Hilton making music (if that's what u want to call it) because she can. People are so damned gullable these days. I wish the whole damn family would go sit down somewhere.

This is a reason why I'm glad the Jacksons have yet to push Michael, Jr. (Prince), Paris and Blanket to entertainment. I think the only reasons people are going after the Smiths is they don't like the track, Willow is signed with Jay-Z's label and the Smiths are supposed Scientologists. lol

I didn't know Lourdes was even doing that... interesting. hmmm

Oh and the fact that she's almost 10, people think that maybe Willow was pushed to do it, that's why people are up in arms over it, least here. On Twitter, mostly, people were praising her and the track saying she slayed Rihanna and Keri and 'em lol

I also believe that, to a certain extent. I also know that there are also many external reasons for unhappiness - rampant unemployment, disease, spam, random acts of violence, systematic discrimination, global warming, stupid ass rappers on probation smoking weed and still having the nerve to get behind the wheel of a car (and cutting into your lane!), people who wait for the subway doors to close to trap you into their serenade when they really can't sing a lick - the list is endless.

I'm not really trying to call this child a Scientologist. I mentioned it as a joke more than anything else. Scientologists believe that people who aren't happy aren't themselves basically because they've been taken over by spiritual extraterrestrial beings who've taken over their bodies. I have no idea if that's what she and her parents believe or if that's what she's referring to in her song.

I personally don't care for this kid's song, it's okay for the most part. However, all this weird hatre towards this child is ridiclous.

LOL! I ain't hatin' on her at all and I most certainly do wish this was me...at nine! Hell, I even wish she was one or both of my kids...at nine...and I could have provided for them...what Will and Jada are able to provide for their kids! nod

I damn sure do and I'm STILL working on it! For their sake and the sakes of my future Grandchildren...and Great-Grandchildren...and Great-Great-Grandchildren!! I won't stop until I've breathed, my very last breath!

Isn't that REALLY supposed to be the whole damn point...of becoming a success? hmmm
