Can I Just Say I "Love" Mr.Bobby Womack? And I don't use that word very lightly. My pair of ears have been drowning in Mr.Womack's music lately, and ONLY HIM
Lets put the fact that he's a brilliant lyricists aside, Can we add him along with Luther & Donny as far as having complete ownership of the songs they cover?
For example, I've always associated this song with Dionne, Carpenters and Isaac Hayes,,,,but I don't think I'll EVER listen to it in the same light again after I listened to this for the 1st time couple of months ago...
The minute he sang the line "everytime you're near", my eyes wells up. He has a talent of making a girl feel tingly, Richard Pryor can testify to what I'm talking about...
"...when the skeletons come out of the closet and kick your ass all around the room"
It doesn't also hurt that everytime I saw him live(twice) he walked on that stage like he owned the whole fuckin' building
Thinking about the "rhythm guitarists" thread, I wish I included him in there,,,,not the best one out there, but def one of the most unique players, I could identify a Bobby Womack fills right off. I re-discovered his music when I read that he was one of the session musicians from Sly Stone's "There's A Riot Going On".
Uh oh, I'm brainstorming again,,,,,,ok enough. Anybody else is a fan? I know there're a few. [Edited 9/2/10 13:31pm]

^^^
This is my FAVE song from "Roads Of Life"
I had my ideas about him, but after I read his scandalous ass autobiography, my heart grew softer for him,,,,,after the many great losses he suffered, I can resonate more with his singing

Who produced "I Can Understand It"? It sounds like it came from Willie Hutch 1/2 of that album(Understanding) was recorded in Sly's home studio.

Great track ! Thanks for posting. Yeah, that's a cool way to get more accustomed to someone's work. Bobby's catalogue is actually another future-project for me to dig through ... so much music to listen to, so little time lol. [Edited 9/4/10 10:44am]

Cool
After hearing that version, I couldn't help but to think that Bobby would've murked the Bacharach/David songbook to death,,,,but judging from the song intro, he seemed like he held a distaste for those type of songs was pressured into recording them.
I wish he went into lengthy discussions about his music in that book of his.
