Today was cool back in the day. Teddy Riley was everywhere Why You Gettin Funky On Me was hot too! Didn't Big Bub release a solo joint and had a R&B hit with his first single?

A New Jack classic! I prefer their other hit singles, though: "Why You Get Funky on Me," "I Got the Feeling," and especially "Girl I Got My Eyes on You." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Can't forget these two:

Im most likely in the minority, but I always thought these guys and their songs were pretty overrated. I'd take Basic Black's first album over any of Today's albums.

Did Basic Black have more albums? Just asking cause i know of only one. Nevertheless i think they were pretty even in terms of what they did. Don't laugh at my funk

basic black had that one album.....which was an underrated new jack album imo.

I give Today a slight edge over Basic Black. They were called "The New Four Tops" strictly for marketing purposes; Basic Black ripped off Guy while they were still active. :-? I do like the BB album, though. The big 4 songs were all pretty good, but "What Ever It Takes" is the only one I'd call great. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

What Ever It Takes and Nothing But A Party were the best cuts on that album for me. I remember i was going to see them open up for Cameo one year before i even knew about them and the show was cancelled. Don't laugh at my funk

Huggiebear said: Not bad, have got this song on my 8CD best of Motown set from the 90s ...which is funny since it's from 1988. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

No its not, its on CD8 of the 8 cd set extending from Money in 1959 to End of the Road in 1992
The set was released in 2 4cd packages, with a book explaioning a brief paragraph or so on each act including all the big stars and groups. Its called Hitsville USA, Volume 1 was arranged in the following format , I will give the years they cover and the some of the acts on them
CD 1 1959 -1964 Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, Temptations, Supremes and Four Tops near the end. CD 2 1965 - 1966 Lots of Four Tops, Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, Supremes etc, Jr Walker and the All Stars, the Elgins, The Downbeats, Jimmy Ruffin, Isleys (This ole heart) CD 3 1967 -1969 Marvin Gaye, Tempts, Four Tops, Originals, Martha and the Vandella, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and the Supremes CD 4 1970 -1971 Jackson 5 (All 4 number ones and never can say good bye), Temptations (Ball of Confusion, just my imagination) Marvin Gaye, (whats going on and mercy mercy me) The Supremes (Stoned Love, Nathan Jones) Diana Ross (Aint no mountain) Rare Earth, The Undisputed Truth (Easily the best CD on the set)
CD 5 1971 -1975 Starts off with Got ot be there by MJ, Diana Ross, The Miracles, Syreeta, Stevie, Willie Hutch, The Dynamic Superiors, Marvin Gaye, Eddie Kendricks (Keep on Truckin), Jackson 5 (Dancin Machine) Lots of wah wah guitar bass laden 70s funk here.
CD 6 1975 -1980 Starts and ends with two pieces of classic Smokey, Quiet Storm and Being with u, Diana Ross, Rick James, Switch, Syreeta and Billy Preston, Jermaine Jackson (Lets get serious), Thelma Houston, Bonnie Pointer, Marvin Gaye
CD 7 1981 -1985 80s pop like De Barge (Time will reveal and Rhythm of the night), Commodores, Gap Band (Whip It), Rockwell, Rick James, Smokey Robinson (Ebony Eyes), Stevie Wonder, Temptations (Treat her like a lady)
CD 8 Stevie Wonder, Temptations (Lady Soul), Stacy Lattisaw, Smokey Robinson, El De Barge (Who is Johnny), Chico De Barge (Talk to me), Boyz II men, Another Bad Creation, Johnny Gill, Today, The Good girls, Shanice
I bought it in 95 for $180NZ (About $80US then) and I still listen to it religiously now, its through this set I know about that Today song, its by far the best ever best of Motown box set put out, all originals no scratchy 1991 re recordings of 60s gem. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

It was a misunderstanding. You meant a best of Motown set released in the 90s while I thought you meant a best of Motown set featuring music from the 90s. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
