I completely agree. I have to admit for years I thought Mariah was the first to do that song. Thank God for Wikipedia and Youtube

It's pretty tragic that the two Badfinger guys who wrote it both committed suicide.

Yeah I read about that it's awful. They were both very young when they passed. I read their band was facing some financial troubles around the time they died. Its a shame, but they certainly left their mark in history. Their song is one of the most popular songs ever.

Mariah's was always lacking something in comparison to the original.

I dunno, it's a song I associate with her. Perhaps the backing singers were unnecessary, but I think when her voice hits the higher registers on the chorus it has more emotive punch.

I used to associate it with Mariah but it sounded off to be linked to her. After I heard the original, it was like "oh well this is HIS song" lol oddly he died of a heart attack around the same time Mariah put hers out.

Here's the original, I don't think Nilsson really made that much of an improvement on it.

^ Well think of what label they signed with and you probably figured it out.

Had it been a different label, they would've claimed ownership lol hell Nilsson didn't even write it though he's known as a songwriter.
