Madonna- Something to Remember (1995) In my opinion, it was one of the finest hit collections put out by Madonna.
I'll Remember (From With Honors 1994)
You'll See
I Want You (Featuring Massive Attack)
One More Chance
Love Don't Live Here Anymore (Remix)
This Used to be My Playground- (A League of Their Own 1992)
Something to Remember- (From I'm Breathless 1990)
Unreleased song- I Can't Forget
Why did she not add this to the album, this is a great song
Then you had Forbidden Love, Crazy For You, Live To Tell, Take a Bow, etc. etc.
It was a great ballads collection, and really highlighted Madonna's memorable ballads

or anybody in my oinion.
again. i don't feel Madonna ever gets the credit she deserves for her ballads. apart from one or two of them. i think i have 3 versions of this album. lol. there's one (Mexican or Latin American) edition that includes "La Isla Bonita" and "Veras" ( You'll See) .

love this album. the only flaws are the unnecessary second version of I Want You and the absolutely horrendous One More Chance taking up space that should have been devoted to things like Bad Girl, The Look Of Love and La Isla Bonita or one of the other songs she worked on for this album. I really really hate One More Chance

It is a great ballad collection. Few new things on there too.
I wish WB would put out a good Prince ballad compilation. There's such great songs to include from 1978-1989. Def enough to fill up a disk, and maybe add 1 new song, and 1 new mix of an older song.
Something like this:
Pink Cashmere (promo mix) If I Was Your Girlfriend International Lover Do Me, Baby Forever In My Life With You Damn U Baby The Question of U Joy In Repetition The Beautiful Ones Slow Love When 2 R In Love Scandalous Adore

Bad Girl is an underrated gem. It should have been on this album.
I'm really annoyed that she decided to leave I can't Forget- as an unreleased track.
Take out that pathetic orchestra version of I want You, and put out I Can't Forget.
Oh well

good album, it was my first madonna CD (I already had a madonna LP and tons of songs on cassette and music videos on tape for years at that point, this was before I could use my own money to update it) when it came out and I played it often that winter while feeling sad [Edited 8/30/10 2:22am]

An excellent compilation. As others have pointed out,Madonna's ballads are so underrated. Her best ballads are haunting and sad ("Live To Tell","Bad Girl","To Have And Not To Hold")...very effective songs!

I really love this album. So many fogotten songs that Madonna still neglects on tour.
Although it would be nice to also have "the look of love" on the compilation

I agree and not only is it one of her finest ballads,it's one of her Top 5 best videos (imo)

This was NOT a good collection.
There are plenty of fantastic Madonna ballads that were excluded for no good reason.
Here's my ideal tracklisting. 12 of her strongest ballads up to 1995.
Crazy For You Live To Tell The Look Of Love Promise To Try Dear Jessie Oh Father Spanish Eyes Rain Bad Girl I'll Remember Take A Bow You'll See

I love this collection, too. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

the lyrics are awful. her voice sounds terrible. there's no melody. and the arrangement ... doesn't even exist.

worst Madonna song ever.

Hard to tell from this list. 1996 US Releases7" Single / Cassette Single / CD Single
12" Promotional Single (Red Label)
1996 European Releases (No General UK Release)CD Single (Slim Line Jewel Case / Card Sleeve)
UK 12" Promotional Single (White Label / Mispressed)
There are none w/ that time signature or even close. So good question.
Madonna and JR had a falling out after the song you mentioned. She didn't like it at all. Madonna's rep said in 2003 that everyone can be assured Madonna will never work with Junior Vasquez again. The last thing he really worked on was "Secret", and "Rescue Me" before that. "Secret" was from Bedtime Stories of course, which was released in 1994. There is an unreleased remix of his of "Like A Prayer".
HOWEVER, he did release an authorized remix of "Hollywood" for a Versace fashion show, with Madonna's approval, in 2003. It was a one-off mix that she agreed to after Donatella Versace got in the middle of both of them. It's called "Hollywood (Junior Vasquez Marathon Anthem)" and clocks at 7:55. It's considered an "in house" release.
I would almost think the remix video posted was one he did for her, but she chose not to release because of their falling out. The dates are a little odd though. "If Madonna Calls" was released in June 1996. "Love Don't" was released in March 1996, three months before Junior's stunt that got him fired forever. So...again, good question.

For me,it would be a tie between this video and "Like A Prayer"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I like it but I think it gets kinda boring sometimes and not all of the songs stood the test of time. I like it how they highlighted "Forbidden Love" here and "Pray For Spanish Eyes" would have been nice instead of the dull LDLHA.
The videos of this period are the absolute worst though, I can't believe after Bedtime Stories she consecutively did 3 of her least inspired videos ever. A lot of people complain about "Jump" or "Celebration" but these were just as bad and it was at the time Bjork was raising the bar...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
"Forbidden Love" should have been one of the singles from Bedtime Stories. It's such a lush, sexy song.I bet it would have followed "Take A Bow" into the Top 10.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Really? I think "I Want You" is a wonderful video. And what's wrong with "You'll See"? They fit the moods of their songs perfectly.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think LiveToTell86 is missing the bigger picture. The videos for "Take A Bow", and "You'll See" were done as sequels to each other. She also did them while still lobbying for the part of Eva Peron in EVITA. The Spanish style clothing, the whole look and feel were very purposeful and pointed. It worked, because after auditions, a long letter, and seeing these two videos, Alan Parker chose her to be Eva. So to say they're "uninspired" is a total farce, as they were directly inspired by Eva Peron, the style back then, and Madonna's desire to claim one of the most important roles in her life. And it worked.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You're right about "Take A Bow" (and I think it's one of her best videos), however, "You'll See" was filmed when Madonna was already recording the Evita soundtrack in London. I'm not sure about her exact cast date but on the set of "Human Nature" video she said she was sorry she couldn't tour Bedtime Stories because of Evita.
The STR project was Warner cashing in on TAB *and* Madonna-soon-to-be-Evita. YS was a sequel and it was uninspired, they even re-used TAB footage in the video and had the guy in the video go back to Spain while Madonna stayed in London in a soundstage and a park, unlike TAB where Madonna went to on location.
She probably couldn't have cared less about the videos at the time when she already landed her dream role and was preparing for it. LDLHA was filmed in Buenos Aires on her day off and she noted it herself she couldn't even remember the words and the song had to be re-edited to fit her erroneous lipsynching.
Also, the song "You'll See" was nothing more than a prelude to "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", so yes, they chose the easy way for the video and made a quick sequel to TAB. The only other time she did a sequel was "Sorry", but it's still all new footage.
As for "I Want You", she looks absolutely gorgeous in it, but it's quite low budget and is a big step down from the BS videos as I noted.
