Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" entered into historical archive Reported by allhiphop.com:
Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five's 1982 record "The Message," was one of the first 50 recordings placed in The National Recording Registry today (Jan. 27). Congress set up the Registry to preserve historical recordings. "The Message" joins Thomas Edison's first recordings, President Roosevelt's "fireside chats," and Scott Joplin's early 1900
ragtime records. "The Message" is deserving a thread in its honor to commemorate the occasion. Don't push me cuz I'm close to the eeedge... I'll Never forget this Song.for all the People that say Rap/Hip-Hop doesn't talk about anything this Song shut them up&still does.the Vamp&Groove of the Song then&Now still is as Cold&Funky as almost anything you have heard on Radio then&Easily for now.that was a Pro-Black Anthem then&Now.that Beat&Message took your Ass Head on.back in the day when Rap scared the Hell out of White&Some Black Folks&Suits didn't know what too do with it this is one of those songs that put fire under there Asses.Great Pop Culture References throughout the song.I give Madd Props too Sylvia Robinson best known for Her Smash"Pillow Talk" for getting down with Rap early on&keeping a Open Mind too it.Sugar Hill Records deserves a Toast on this Classic.this Song along with Gil Scott Heron's "The Revolution WIll not Be televised" are Two of the Strongest Pro-Black Anthems Ever too come from the Rap/Hip-Hop Movement.stand up&give it up for 'The Message"RIGHT ON NUPOWER!! They were the precursor to many of PE's messages during a time when Hip Hop was based mainly in having fun. Nothing at all with the fun/party Hip Hop because there's room for everything, but Grandmaster Flash's social messages came with good timing during the infancy of Reaganomics. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes. | |

I believe this totally and agree that is is what every rap song wants 2 b. I have had atguments 2 other people about the greatest rap song, and they all shut up when it comes 2 this. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

what a monster track , but have u all forgotten about another all time classic - WHITE LINES (DON'T DON'T DO IT). this song spent a whole year (well nearly) in the u.k chatrs with virtually no air play , along with the message they are the greatest rap records ever made. | |

Maxx pretty much covers the bases here. I can only add that it is one of the greatest important rap records EVER made. I bought this 12 inch the week it came out in 1982. Matter of fact the Sugar Hill Records logo is one of my favorite logos. | |

Love love love this song. I was grooving to it way back in elementary school and people thought I was nuts!
Also the first song I rapped to... no shit. California Love came later but for a long time nobody could beat me at: My brother's doing bad, sold my mother's T.V.
