Can you live without an iPod or MP3 device? I've owned many ipods, since they first came out. I use it everyday. At home, in the car, outdoors, you name it, my iPod is always with me. I could see myself having one of these for the rest of my life. It still thrills me to have my entire collection, over 11,000 songs (my music DNA) with me at all times.
I'm thinking of buying one more 160GB as a back up in case they discontinue these.

I´ve never owned one. So yes. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I have had my 2GB MP3 player for 2 years now. It's not a lot of space, so I tend to just listen to various mixes/podcasts/mixtapes I like. I've only imported a few CDs on my computer anyway. It's nice to use, but I could live without it. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

Nope!! Prince's entire music collection a the palm of my hand at all times!??! Yes!! Thank you!
I used to be like... "no man... i want be able to put the cd into it's players and hold the cover... "But then i bought one and fell in love with. Thousands of songs in my hand at once is really really really nice!!!

Its for about not living without music, i mean its a great thing and accessible but it also has tons of downsides, but im sure we all were saying, "damn i'd die without my walkman" so its just a new day, im sure one day none of this will exist and you will be able to say an artist and they virtually appear and sing a catalog for you. I hated Walmans. I don't want anything little that you have to listen to with headphones. If it ain't something that thumps the ground and walls hard, disturbs the neighbors, and gets the police called, I ain't got no use for it.
Hell, can't you just see folks at a party gathered around the headphones? Fuck that shit! . . . [Edited 9/1/10 12:39pm] Andy is a four letter word.

No. I wasn't so crazy about the iPod when they first came out, my first one my daughter "took" it because I didn't use it. Maybe it was because I never did like Walkman's and I thought the sound quality would suck. When I realized I could put a vast majority of my music collection on it, I slowly but surely came around. I travel a lot, I can't live without the dam things, I'm really addicted to the iTouch the music and recordings apps.

I still remember that cool October day in 2001 when I opened my very first iPod. Nine years and many upgrades later, I'm still in love. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

i'm with you. i don't have one, never had either. a buddy of mine is about to give me his Ipod nano as he never uses it anymore since he got his Iphone. the other day at the gym this guy made me wish SO BAD i had one. he was SOOOOO obnoxious. one of those "know it alls" who gossips about stuff he really doesn't know about. he had two "captive pupils" on the treadmills who were eating up EVERYTHING he was saying. i was like ARRRRRRRRRGH. i need some headphones and music right now!!! anywho i digress. but yes, i can and have lived without them. still a physical cd buyer.

I received as a gift, a shuffle for running and I now use it for probably 40% of my runs. I also take it with me for long distance travel and use it sparingly on flights. That's about it. I have concerns about long term hearing damage/loss so try to keep the usage pretty low.
I could certainly live with out it. [Edited 9/1/10 19:44pm]

no.
i just bought my 3rd one today. Had a 60GB iPod to start out 4 years ago. Grew to love it. Had to upgrade a little over a year ago, and they'd replaced the 160 classic with a 120 by the time I bit the bullet. then they re-introduced the 160. ugh. so I've been waiting for awhile to upgrade again, because i've already outgrown the 120, hoping they'd bump up the storage (or at least lower the price) this year. with all the rumors of it being discontinued, I had my finger on the "place order" button on amazon during the entire apple music event today. no mention of it during the event, but when the apple store came back online afterward, it was still there featured at the top of the page. so tonight i went to Best Buy and got one.
just in case.
thinking about getting a touch too, when the new ones come out, just for entertainment's sake. but the limited storage and the touch screen just will not do for my music listening needs.
long live the iPod classic! i'd be lost without it.

These years I grew more dependent on my Ipod and less dependent on my physical music library,,,,fact is, I don't think I have no use of it anymore since I uploaded it in its entirely into my Ipod and a heap of other stuff from the internet(Hi Paul ).
I spent a big portion of my time building my music library in there,,,so no.

Shame on you for even bringing up such a question! I would say, yes, because I lived without them before they came along. However, I would not want to live without my mp3 player. There is no other device that I can think of that will allow me to have all of my music on one source and I can carry it with me to listen to in my car, while shopping, at work, or wherever. You can't do that with a cd.
