t-pain ,little wayne and the state of american music Hello everybody i'm a 28 year old music lover from Serbia. My country was ruled by communist leaders but unlike other communist countries our former leaders knew they had to let popular culture from the west to be consumed and idolized so from the early 60's we had rock band after that we had hard rock and other genres .so since the early days much before my time popular music from west was the biggest ingluence on serbian music and the popular coulture of many countries around the planet Now days i live in a democratic country but pop music from the west that was the best ever started to suck big time. i wanted to hear T-Pain and Lil wayne because i know they are popular in America. i was amazed and shocked how bad their "music" is. no song structure no melodies no compositions, awful "singing" drenched in auto tune. Does anybody like that shit? how come that stuff is popular. you had great music since the early 20'th century what happen' ? before even bad music from USA had at least song structure what is this now? I hate to say it, but this is what many of our youth call good music. Yes, I am ashamed to be an american. I totally agree with you, this so-called music is mostly garbage.

There was a time not long ago I'd have agreed with you, but....
I don't think the blame can be placed on young people. The real blame lies with the greedy fucks controlling the industry who care more about the botom line than they do art.
The thing is, this kind of music doesn't really support the bottom line anyway. There's no longevity in it. T-Pain will never be a "legacy" artist like the Rolling Stones or even Prince. Even in the short-term, it's stopped making sense. Record sales have been dropping like a lead weight this past few years. Industry execs try to blame it on illegal downloading, but anybody with properly working ears could tell you it's as simple as nobody in their right mind wanting to buy that garbage. I'm not ashamed to be an American, but I am ashamed of the greedy "music" industry crap peddlers, and the ignorant kids who can't be bothered to learn about better music and culture.
Greed and ignorance. They're helping kill this nation. In my heart I believe it's part of the devil's grand design to bring us down, little by little.

That's probably going too far. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I know that could be a real stretch for some people. But I would bet a million bucks that Stevie Wonder, Santana, and Prince would agree with me.
anyway, back on topic. | |

Tpain is not even thaaaaaat popular in the unites states and although Lil Wayne has achieved alot fo commercial sucsess he is certainly not representative of all American pop music. Most people either love or hate him. Pop music over here is starting to dwindle in popularity, smalltime acts are getting bigger and bigger. American music is too diverse to be all encompassed, especially by a lame rapper. 2012: The Queen Returns

I think calling American music "diverse" is giving it a bit too much credit, just because there is an abundance of it, doesnt mean its diverse. Granted the "net" is a well of music, but a major portion of it, is pretty routine, and not that good. A lot of what people call "indie" is part of a label, if u look deep enough at who owns an "indie" label you will trace it all to a source distributor, which in terms means you are signed to a major label, like it or not. I think Indie is just a cool word people toss around to make themselves seem like they arent playing the "game" but though they may not be walking that "main-streamed" line they are playing the game with the money of the "main-streamers". There is a huge difference in "Mainstream" and being "main-streamed" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I agree in a way blaming things on Satan (or any evil force) sounds way out but goodness knows this music is god awful, ignorant, and has no beat that a sane person could dance too. You have to wonder if destroying popular music is another small way of pulling our country down. As a people we do not seem to be proud of our cultrue.

Yes the whole paradox of Indie is there. But go down to your local bar, I was at 7th st entry last night (part of first ave) where I saw some great bands. Diversity is here, just look for it. 2012: The Queen Returns

I think it's time for you to be quiet, Li'l Wayne. I'm calling you that because the only possible way you could defend his attempts at music is if you work for him, or you ARE him. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
