Pearl Jam aim to beat bootleggers

This from dotmusic.com

Pearl Jam will offer fans the chance to own official 'bootleg' recordings of shows on their forthcoming world tour. For their upcoming dates, fans can pre-order a recording of the show they attend from the band's Ten Club fan organisation. The following day, fans can use the secure link they've been given to access unmastered MP3 files of the show. A fully mastered double CD of the concert will then arrive 7-10 days later with custom-designed artwork.

If you are already a member of the fan club you can buy the recordings at a reduced price of $12.98 per show or $194.70 for the first 15 shows. Non-members will have to pay $14.98 per show.

Now why cant P do this? I would go for this for the 3rd Oct show I saw in London without a moments hesitation.

Yeah,I heard about this and i think it's a great idea.Prince really should consider doing something like this. This deal even makes it easy for NON-MEMBERS to get these CDs too,and the prices are reasonable.

Didn't Pearl Jam do a similiar thing a few years ago, where they made CDs from an entire tour? You could go into a record store and buy CDs from EVERY show on the tour!

But really, who would like to own a cd of every concert on the tour?

There are plenty of very strange people around who have income to dispose of.

The Who did this on their last tour except it cost about $25.00 for a double disc set.
I wonder how much record company invovlement is there in these live discs? Pearl Jam seems to be able to work within the big record company box without writing slave on their drumset while releasing multiple live cds. Are Pearl Jams instant live cds released under their record companys logo or are they an independent venture seperate from their record company?

Prince won't do it because he's stupid, even though the profits would be enormous not only monetory but in terms of Prince's control over his music.

Pearl Jam did do a couple of years ago and Phish recently did the same kinda thing, as did the Grateful dead. The thing is, this will wipe out a large amount of bootleg labels, despite what people say. I know a lot of Grateful Dead fans who almost creamed their pants when they got soundboards of the bands classic shows. The $40 bootleg they had payed previously for was now obsolete.

Pearl Jam choose to take that route though and not be commercial. Their last album Riot Act entered the billboard charts at No3. Even a hyped up Prince album wouldn't do that now which is such a pity.

They used Sony to distribute the live CDs. Their normal record label is Epic. Either way they managed it!
