This is an excellent documentary that's a long time in coming. I wish it could've been 2 hours long just to focus more on the female pioneers in rap. The Lauryn Hill segment was sad given the reality of what happened to her and the comments that Trina made were disturbing yet so true.
Oddly enough hearing so much about Nicki Minaj renewed my interest in femcees and I've recently gotten albums by Tiye Phoenix, Jean Grae & Stacey Epps. That underground shout-out at the end of the program was very cool so I'll definitely seek out music by those artists as well.

For my money , the greatest female emcee ever to touch a microphone was Lady of Rage. MC Lyte, Lil Kim and Foxy Brown I gotta downgrade because they used ghostwriters to write some of their material. Lady of Rage, sounded like aggressive and hardcore and still sounded feminine. And my girl still looking beautiful and sexy after all these years. She needs to drop another album like yesterday. "Necessary Roughness" came out in 1997. Nicki Minaj is fluff. I've heard her music and Alvin the chipmunk has a better voice and lyrics. I'm not "hating" but in 5 years, she'll probably earn some Grammys but will she will be equal to her male counterparts like Eminem, Lil Wayne, or even her label mate Drake. The answer is "NO!". 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it quite yet, so I'll just say that it was nicely done and I'm gonna have to check out some of the underground femmecees they discussed. "For those who know the number and don't call...Fuck all y'all"

All about MC Lyte, for me. No other female has touched the mic with as much integrity. Nods to Missy & Sha-Rock.....but I'm sorry...Lyte OWNS it. Funk Is It's Own Reward

I think Nicki definately has what it takes to hang with the big dawgs. Her verses, on Kanye's "Monster", was ridiculas, she held her own. She is definately, not fluff. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I wonder why they didn't interview Queen La, Lil Kim or Foxy for this??
They were all mentioned by the other MC's, but they themselves weren't on the show.... "Bring friends, bring your children and bring foot spray 'cause it's gon' be funky." ~ Prince

They tried to get everyone however the resources department was kind of lacking I have been told. Some ladies were just unavailable. they shot over 44 hours of footage that had to be condensed in to a hour long special. I think it was a step in the right direction however Sha Rock,Pebblee Poo,The Sequence,Mercedes Ladies, nad Lady B. amongst other pioneers shouldnhave been interveiwed. Roxanne Shante & Nikki D.'s involvement were 2 of the last ladies interviewed before the whole taping wrapped up. I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
