I see the Divorcee on there. And Baby Face with Barbara Stanwyck is a riot. I'm looking at this collection on TCM right now. I might get it. Thanks, hunny.

My favorite Norma Shearer movie, "The Barretts of Wimpole Street" (1934). Ms. Shearer's career would have been so much different if she just knew what a good script was. She turned down "Go With The Wind", "Now Voyager, and Mrs. Miniver. WTF was she thinking.
P.S. As I said befo' Harle, I'm tryin' to deal with these revelations.

Let me guess, Miss Melanie, right? Coz if it was Scarlett, then she would've been up against....
Bette Davis
Joan Crawford
Katherine Hepburn
Lucille Ball
Tallulah Bankhead
Joan Bennet
Am I missing somebody? I'm sure the list was longer than that. |

And to her defense,,,,,
She was already retired by the time somebody handed her the "Now, Voyager" script, right? It would've been her career's dramatic exit. But I'm glad it went to Ms.Davis instead, I cannot picture anybody doing ANY of Bette's films,,,,and a remake should even be outta the ?uestion |

Scarlett O'Hara: Shearer was offered the role outright but she turned it down. Different stories why have been told. 1. She didn't think much of book hence, she wasn't all giddy about the movie 2. Public outcry because it was thought her crossed eyes . . . she didn't fit the image of Scarlett O'Hara.
the 2nd reason, sorry. it's a cold world. |

Shearer was also one of the many actresses considered for the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind (1939). However, Shearer expressed no interest, stating "I don't want to play Scarlett. The role I'd like to play is Rhett Butler!" |

It's funny how things workout because you here about actors turning down major movies and ya think, nah they could've never nailed the part.
She was still working and considering scripts in 42 but she did retire that year after she married, again. |

Tallulah Bankhead might had something to say about that, though |

These muthafuckas were so clever and chic back then. I'd love to use books as placecards at a dinner.
Over the next two years, both Norma and Irving would see other people, but Hollywood insiders knew it was something of a charade—she was just waiting for him to propose. Louise Brooks remembered: "I held a dinner party sometime in 1926. All the place cards at the dinner table were books. In front of Thalberg's place was Dreiser's Genius and in front of Norma's place I put The Difficulty of Getting Married. It was so funny because Irving walked right in and saw Genius and sat right down, but Norma kept walking around. She wouldn't sit down in front of The Difficulty of Getting Married – no way!"[12] |

Norma also didn't have the acting range to pull those parts off, sorry. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." |
