I would cetainly get all, but definately, "Abbey Road". It has one the greatest "B" sides, ever.

Wow, it depends...

First of all, what kind of new fan are you? I mean, do you own any of their greatest hits? just a few mp3 classics? etc.

Well, if you don't have any album I suggest the BEATLES 1 compilation, a greatest hits of their Nº1 singles in the USA if I'm not mistaken; it's the perfect intro: 27 golden classics; sadly, there are a lot of singles AND other hits not included here, but basically BEATLES 1 features their BIGGEST hits... nod

But if you want to buy studio albums, I suggest the "Holy Trinity" Rubber Soul + Revolver + Sgt.Peppers (65-67), funny, addictive, memorable, strong, cool studio albums, all killers no fillers and amazing, timeless production values...

and if you want the best album of their 62-64 era, buy A Hard Day's Night nod

finally, you can basically purchase the rest of their albums, but I warn you: The White Album and Abbey Road are masterpieces but somewhat cold and not extremely entertaining albums, and many people think that their 62-64 work (including the 1965's Help! soundtrack) is a bit cheesy and immature...

Anyway: avoid the Yellow Submarine soundtrack (just download Hello Bulldog); and I have to say that Beatles for Sale (1964) is a so-so album despite some classics songs here and there...

Well I always like songs here and there from them but never bother to actually purchase any of their music (Why I don't know). So I was thinking of starting with a greatest hits album then moving forward into getting all their albums. And I'll take your advice

I mean, from rubber soul to abbey road, you really can't make a bad choice with any of them starting off.

Red & Blue comps are a nice starting point. Number Ones is fine too...

...but the albums are more rewarding listens in the end.

Yeah it does really depend on what "beatles" you dig, to me there was SO much growth from album to album, i mean early on they were that "poppy" catchy harmonies type group, but then like it was said "Rubber Soul" on they became artists on a whole other level, So depending on what "phase" you dig most, but to me the top notch stuff all came from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road

I'll probably check out each phase i'm not really picky just wondering which album would be best to start at lol.

This list is perfect=]

Sgt.Pepper to me is there greatest and most creative album, and hey Rolling Stone magazine even named it the greatest album of all time!.

But don't let the hype get ya make your own opinion wink

After that it's The White Album for me, it's so beautiful & strange and melodic it's just a perfect double album.

Then Revolver, it's well as mostbeautiful put it has a bit of everything

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Anyone that doesn't just go buy their "hits" album says to me they have more than a little interest. Don't waste your money on the collections then....
Start at the start then take it away!
For someone who hasn't heard the albums before, it's a magical journey! cool

I agree with the post above. Start at the geginning and go. Or start at the end and backtrack. Either way you'll see the change their music went through. Each album has a different sound from the one before it and the one after it. Even albums released within a year of each other sound drastically different. Get one album at a time though. Take your time with it. If your able to get one of the boxed sets, listen to one one album for a while before you go to the next one. enjoy each album thoroughly then graduate to the next one. Godd luck on your new musical journey. Your life will only grow richer because of it.

Honestly if you are justing jumping in, i would say grab one from each era. Go grab "Rubber Soul" or "Revolver" equally perfect albums, Grab "Abbey Road" and from early on to see how it began grab "Please Please Me" and that will show you how artists USED to grow.

That's what I was planing to do , I was going to listen to each album in order. I'll probably still buy a greatest album also , I do that with artists i'm just getting into.

Magical Mystery Tour a forgotten masterpiece??? pfffffffff hahaha come on, people, come on

It was just a rushed hodge-podge, a just ok EP soundtrack expanded to a messy LP, full of leftovers, bad album tracks (Blue Jay Way, Your Mama Should Know, Baby You're a Rich Man), and songs that were conceived for another projects (like All You Need is Love)

And let's not forget that the best songs here, Penny Lane & Strawberry Fields Forever, belong to the Sgt.Peppers sessions...

oh, AND it has a BAD cover...

I mean, this album is not even in my personal top7 Beatles albums...

It think a lot of peeps don't know that Strawberry and Penny were before Sgt Pepper's (the lead in singles to that mood) and were just thrown onto Magical Mystery Tour.

The one BIG song on that strange cobbed together album that is original to it is I am the Walrus.

"The first side of the LP was the film soundtrack (like earlier British Beatles soundtrack albums), and the second side was a collection of A-side and B-sides released in 1967, with the songs "Penny Lane", "Baby, You're a Rich Man" and "All You Need Is Love" presented in duophonic, fake "processed" stereo, sound. "

IT IS a strange cobbed together album nod I think it somewhat holds together because the songs share similar production values (the whole Beatles 1967 sound)...
