Thanks. I wonder if "they" heard me. I'm a huge fan of Heatwave and Rod Temperton. Last year I submitted this as an idea for future episodes. I thought it would make a great story given their international background, drama and Rod's success...and that "always & forever" HAS TO THE MOST PLAYED R&B SONG EVER!! No disrespect, but i never want to hear that song ever again.
I'm so looking forward to this!

Always and Forever is a song I have always loathed "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Thanks for the link...
I love many of their songs. ...Always thought Put the Word Out - could have inspired the drums in 777-9311

we got a funky situation.....that's all you need to know
I always wondered why there were only two singles from 'Central Heating' ("The Groove Line" and "Mindblowing Decisions").I think "Put The Word Out" and "Party Poops" could have been singles too.

Yes?! Heatwave didn't toll in obscurity they had an established successful careers. Hell, I knew them what more is there to say.
Maybe, I guess, we need a definition of what an Unsung artist is because a lot of their choices aren't Unsung. Maybe another person or network will pick on this subject and take it a little further ... because we have umpteen of one / two/ three album R&B/Soul/Jazz/ Funk artist and even regional artist/bands who were truly unsung. More and more I'm not feelin' this show, I'm not interested in the car wreck I wanna know about the creative process, music, and business aspect. Yes, human foibles come into play but for the most part I haven't learned anything from most of these shows. Does someone have to die, be drugged out, go to prison, or be killed just to have a show?
Rant over. . . I feel much better.

I hear ya
Like GQ and Chic, they also suffered from the "disco backlash",even though they were much more than just a disco band.

You make an excellent point, I'm glad someone said it. However, because you rarely, actually you'll never hear about these artists anywhere else on television except on Unsung, we need a show like this. When I saw that there's was going to be a show where they were actually going to tell the story of Debarge, I was fired up to see it because I knew their story years before.
All I can say is be thankful, because you won't find these artists on Behind the Music or American Masters or whatever.
And I'm still waiting on the Isley Brothers story.

Heatwave's success covered 2 albums practically. Shit after Eyeballin i rarely heard much else from them much like GQ after the success of their first two albums. Not saying they didn't make any more good music but they were rarely heard on the radio. Hell i didn't even know J D Nichols was a part of Heatwave after Johnny Wilder's accident. These guys have had some ups and downs in the business that stalled their success and they definitely qualify as Unsung. Furthermore no other network is doing these types of shows. I give TVone kudos for at least getting their stories told. [Edited 8/26/10 9:39am] Don't laugh at my funk

Title in Heatwave and one of those "unheard songs" and go to YouTube. Enjoy.

Hmm but they didn't become one of those bands who had decades of success though. As phunk pointed out, their own success lasted two albums. After Rod left and the lead singer had his accident it was over as quickly as it began.
I don't think they're unsung as far as the R&B community goes, but otherwise...yeah lol

No, they (Heatwave) are not and that's exactly my point.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That being said, not too many folks here know their story...which is quite tragic.

Should be interesting | |
