Its all very bizzare to say the least.

^^ Sorry, had to vent a little. It's just frustrating. My usual rational self normally dismisses biases and focuses on facts (which isn't a far cry that Murray is guilty).
*Ahem* Shall we get back to discussing Michael's music?

Someone talked about Lady in my life a few posts back and I realized I hadn't heard this song in a long time!!

This song right here proves Michael was one of the greatest soul singers of all time.

I feel he's underappreciated when it comes to his singing. Maybe it's just me.

His dancers said that MJ was in very good shape the day before he died. Therefore, somebody is lying.

No you're not. He approached songs in a way many of us would have had difficulty especially with the vocals he had. When you think about it, especially going back to the Motown days, it's remarkable it gets overlooked.

I know and for a kid at that (at that time).

There were definitely doubles used in the movie.
I think it was the real Michael in the Jackson 5 medley, Black or White, Smooth Criminal vintage clip, Jam, They Don't Care About Us, The Way You Make Me Feel, and Threatened.
Janet hasn't seen the film till date so that obviously says a lot. Neither has Joe, or LaToya. [Edited 8/23/10 19:54pm]

I knew dude was special when I heard Who's Loving You. The guy was still ten when they recorded that song in Hitsville (they didn't go to California until late July '69) in Detroit and to hit those notes while the Funk Brothers and Detroit Symphony were laying down the music... it was truly majestic. That's when I knew Michael was more than just a pop star.

Which scenes do you think the "tons of doubles" were used in? Tell me more. MJ Fan 1992-Forever

Exactly , I love his dancing like everybody else but sometimes I like to just hear him sing. Great voice

I'll keep my mouth shut on the doubles thing , just as bad as people thinking he still alive.

I think when he was a young boy, people were vowed by his vocals. You always heard folks like Barry Gordy and others saying they couldn't believe he had that much soul in such a little body. In his adult years, he became more of a visual artists by pairing music and dance. I think that's where we forgot the magic in his voice. The mass audience around the world cared about the pop star, glittery gloves, moonwalking, etc. But once you hear Can't Help It, Lady in My Life, Liberian Girl.. you get sucked right in. It didn't matter if it was Michael Jackson, you felt the voice.

When I hear him sing a softer song, it feels like I'm here ---> Few singers have been able to do that for me besides him (Chaka, Patti, Luther, Marvin, Stevie, George, etc.). Michael's a part of that list.

Wanna Be Starting Something (Barring that portion where he's wear the TDCAU outfit) Human Nature and Billie Jean Michael's look too different compared to Michael in the Jackson 5 Medley, Black or White.
This is Michael in the last two videos for sure.
Also how could Michael go from looking like this- horrid (definitely a double)

And to be frank, the reason I loved the ballads on Invincible is that it reminded us why he was such a great singer in the first place. I still get chills hearing them.

Exactly. Michael was a master at creating lush balladry and using his voice give a song more character and life. Check me out and add me on:

you could be right. I know that he was never big to begin with, I know that he even weighed 105 in his prime, but I'm looking at everything, not just the weight. I'm looking at his enthusiasm level and performance too. He just didn't seem all there. his reluctance to extend himself in his vocals and dance were only partially understandable knowing he wanted to save his self for the shows but I'm a singer and I know how to take care of my voice, I also know that if you don't use it like you actually use it in performance, at least a little, you will not be able to perform like you want to. I thought he looked lost on stage, making moves because he didn't seem to know what else to do, now this isn't joe schmo, this is Michael Jackson, he just didn't look ready. Like I said, I'm sure he would have been well recieved, however, for 50 shows, I'm sure that was the biggest thing on his mind.

that's very true, he was 50, but he looked so pale, so gaunt in the face too, maybe it's just my imagination but he looked like he bit off too much.

Once again, this is very reminiscent of Elvis and his doctor who they went after. The doc actually got off. I guess the determining factor is that the patients (Elvis and Michael) both went to great lengths to get the drugs they wanted. That's no justification and I see Mike's doctor as much more irresponsible and incompetent than Elvis' doc. How someone like that got through med school makes you scratch your head. I went to a university and even though I half assed it, you just don't make, even in 4 year college, by not being on top of things. Maybe the doc was on drugs too.

Yeah, that's probably one of my all time favorite performances by anyone, much better than the original.

^^ Doubles - oh come on now. There were no doubles used in This Is It. I have watched that film more times than I care to mention and trust me there is no use of doubles. What they do is cut up various rehearsals over serveral weeks and put them together - WBSS is a classic example of this. They pull together pieces of the performance from various takes depending on the coverage they had to add more excitement to the film.
If anyone can point out a real double then be glad to see it.
