Tinker Barfield featuring Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin, Norma Jean Wright & Lisa Fischer

Bassist Tinker Barfield has a new single called "My Lover's Arms" reuniting the incomparable ladies of the CHIC Organization, Luci Martin, Norma Jean Wright, and Alfa Anderson-Barfield (Tinker's wife), along with Lisa "How Can I Ease The Pain" Fischer. Such a joy to hear these rich voices together again. It's time for Nile Rodgers to get over himself and get these ladies back in the studio. They still have the magic.

It's a shame that, for many years,Niles chose to tour with a 'new' version of Chic, featuring younger female artists, when all the time,he could have been touring with the original ladies of Chic confused

I don't think that is entirely true. Remember, Norma Jean quit after the first album, she wanted to pursue a solo career. As for the other girls, they were sick of touring.

Seriously? I know there was some drama several years ago when Niles tried to stop them from touring as "The Ladies Of Chic".I wish they could all just kiss and make up and tour together again wink

I for one am really glad Chic brought Jill Jones out in'96. She looked so incredibly sexy in that yellow dress and the heels love fallinluv

Norma Jean Wright did not quit CHIC after the first album. Here's a link to a 2001 interview where she addresses her departure from CHIC.

I've not read or heard that any involved parties were sick of touring. Alfa toured with Luther Vandross for many after CHIC disbanded in the mid-1980s. Neither she, nor Luci or Norma were asked to participate in the 1992 'Chic-ism' project. Nile has commented that CHIC was he and Bernard...period. Belittling the roles of all other participants. That's a shame.

That's an interesting interview! I didn't know that she sings background vocals on Madonna's first album.

I heard just the opposite. I heard that she was sick of touring and wanted a break. Now, maybe that meant that she was sick of Bernard and Nile, but I don't know.

On the production side, the CHIC Organization was always Nile & Bernard.

But as a band CHIC, both men were never the ones on the tracks OR the live stage as the lead vocals. Right there is the problem with the story.

Bernard contributed lead vocals to "26" and "Happy Man". Both men provided vocals on Take It Off .

That ain't what people remember about Chic though.

It was all about Luci, Norma and Alfa. They WERE CHIC as far as I'm concerned. Nile, Bernard and Tony were the musicians and Nile and Bernard the songwriters/producers. It should've been a team effort.

I would hope if CHIC is inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, that they all patch things up. I would hate to see Nile with two women not related to the legacy of the group, least put Luci, Norma and Alfa with him.

No, it's all about the songs Rodgers and Edwards crafted. The average music fan can not name a female Chic vocalist much less recognize their faces.

Well I know that but to not include those women (I know a little about them) is cheaping their legacy though we know Neil and Bernard were behind all the songs.

The average music fan couldn't name a male member of CHIC. The average music fan couldn't name a member of Blondie. Debbie Harry included. A lot of folks think her name is Blondie. The average music fan couldn't name one of Gladys' Pips.

When Chic is finally inducted into the Rock Hall, the focus will be on Edwards and Rodgers, not three interchangable singers.

You're expecting Jann Wenner to induct those geniuses - and they are geniuses but for real into their shitty Hall of Fame? The same Hall of Fame that inducted Smokey Robinson but not the Miracles, James Brown (which he deserved) but not the Famous Flames?

I would hope if they do induct them, induct the ones that sung lead too. Least they play a part if not the biggest part in CHIC's legacy. Admittedly Nile and Bernard are what made CHIC but they had help too lol. Don't forget Tony Thompson. biggrin

And an honorable mention for Fonzi Thornton, who (though more in the background) had an important part of creating that Chic-sound as well (their trademark vocal arrangements).

And while you're at it, let's throw in the Chic Strings and Luther, who sang background on several Chic albums. wink

Luther had indeed part in Chic's legacy, but also already had a solo-career starting around 1981 at CBS-Epic, and before that with his quartet called Luther on Atlantic-Cotillion, while his good friend Fonzi was Chic's original choir leader.
