Madonna Vegas Residency?!!

http://www.digitalspy.co....y.html?rss

God, I hope she doesn't go for this...it would be awful! sad

M doesn't need the case, and it will cripple her musical integrity (at least for me)...plus I can't afford a trip to Vegas to see her!

This is the wave of the future. Everyone is doing Vegas. It's not some cheesy place like it was 20 or 30 years ago with Sammy Davis Jr stumbling his way through an act. It's THE place to be now. There are more theaters, more acts, more family friendly stuff than ever. (The same can be said of Times Square's makeover in recent years.) Cher, Celine, Bette Midler, Elton John, and a host of others have done the same, made a lot of money, had a lot of time off in between, and no one thought different of it. Plus, it's a great way for an artist to not only not have to worry about the rigors of touring, but also the fans have a landing place to see an artist, at their leisure, knowing the artist will be there for a few months, or even a few years. It's a plus for everyone.

Vegas is definitely NOT a "washed up" place anymore. Not by a long shot.

And what it used to mean was the people who could ONLY get a Vegas gig on some "Where are they now" novelty. Definitely not the case when acts are offered .... how much did you say, SoulAlive?

I wished MJ had done a stint in Vegas instead of the stuff at the o2.

It would have been cool to plan a year around his shows. Maybe see it a few

times that year.

I'm sure Madonna fans will be mixed as far as feelings towards it.

Some won't like it for the reasons mentioned, but others will like

having a chance to see her perform on a regular basis.

Why isn't doing another album? Wasn't her last one with

Timbaland and Justin a huge hit? I'm surprised she isn't

following that up.

I'm not opposed to the "Vegas" residency, the way I see it, its just a gig like any other type of work.

I've seen Candi Staton perform in there once with a quartet of bass, guitar, organ and drums, and the set was 1000 light years away from being a novelty act. There're def stuff for everybody.

Madonna is a fool if she'll think she's above this because its a "novelty haven".

and they show her the $$$$$$!!

I predict, she'll agree to do this. Within a year, she'll get sick or have some sort of "tragedy" that will release her from her contract, she'll walk away with the money and then she'll announce a new album and tour a few months after. lol

Unless she does most of her classic songs, then I don't really see the point of a Vegas Residency.

Exactly. of the big 3, she's the only who never did a stint in Vegas

Uh, Vegas has never been the washed place for singers. It was the place to be and preform because the payed Mr. Davis, Mr. Sinatra, Ms. Turner, Cher BIG bucks weekly back in the day in their "prime". Those entertainers spoke about the advantage of being well paid without having to deal with the demands of the road. Nobody is willing to give a billion dollars to a washed up singer. lol

i don't want to get into taste, and i'm very Joni M illiterate, but when all's said and done w/ madonna, and that final, definitive box set comes out...holy cow. That is going to be one amazing, fun, and very important block of pop music.

I've seen the Celine Dion, Bette Midler and Prince shows out there..

IMO, Madonna would be too confined, hampered, by that kind of stage -- they might have to build a whole new venue to accommodate her level of showmanship wink

I also wish MJ had finished that Vegas deal he was working on instead of O2..

sigh smile

She'll probably do it -- for the money, for the press, for the notoriety of being 3rd-biggest female celebrity after Oprah and Martha Stewart.

Having said that, 5 years is a big chunk of time and I hope her recording career does not suffer.

I have never seen her live, but like an earlier poster mentioned, her greatest hits collection rivals any of her peers. It would surely be an amazing show, especially considering that they could build more permanent staging and theatrics since they don't have to dismantle them for the road.

Las Vegas is NOT just for novelty artist. It's for every artists that are willing to do all of their gigs in ONE city within a time flame.

Elvis did it.

Cher did it.

Elton John did it.

Celine Dion did it.

Hot damn it, even Prince did a few nightly gigs!

And sooner or later, even rappers like Snoop Dogg are going to go Vegas as well. By the end of the day, it's still a gig AND it paid big money.

I absolutely adore Madonna and have since the mid-80's. I agree the box set would be great!

...but she'll never be on the level of Joni Mitchell. I don't even think Prince is there, actually.

This rumor came up at least twice already in the past decade, ever since Celine did it, people kept saying Madonna will be next.

Madonna is still a massive worldwide touring act and her current contract is based on that. So this ain't happening till 2020, zero chance. Even after that I'd doubt it pretty much, she won't need the money and she doesn't like to stay in one place for long.

Not sure what 'musical integrity' has anything to do with the subject though, neither what the 'integrity' is of a pop entertainer...

She's currently directing a movie and is not expected to hit the studio till next spring at the very least, her tour was so big that Live Nation probably lets her rest till she can make another world tour in a couple of years, she doesn't need to record any new music till then. Also, it is unclear how she's gonna release new music next time around, at this point Madonna doing the 'newspaper stunt' is more plausible than her releasing a CD the 'regular' way.

I guess so. I mean, that's what i hear. I know she's got some die hard fans. I'll have to go try and listen to "Blue" again. Sigh.

My friends and I play this game where we list (and yell over) famous artists that you're sure - absolutely positive - are brilliant, original, and deserve respect, but for the life of you, you cannot listen to, tolerate, or even understand what they're going on about. As in, you literally don't comprehend the subject of the work. But you know they're great.

We call it the Emily Dickinson List of Brilliant Confusion.

Joni Mitchell has a very proud place on mine. Right alongside Bjork, Kid Rock, and the Indigo Girls.
