School me-why doesn't the RnB community look well upon the Ronnettes? Is it cause they were so racially ambigous? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Their music was more pop-oriented though "Be My Baby" did well on the R&B chart and they were actually on the cover of EBONY in 1965 but as far as that goes, the Ronettes never really got props in this community for some reason. I don't know if it's the Phil Spector connection. Same can be said for Darlene Love.

I really enjoyed Tammi Terrell’s episode – it was a great balance of showing her real life issues as well as her performance side. I’ve never read her bio or researched her online so like others, I believed those stories about David Ruffin’s beatings being the cause of her brain injury. I had never heard about her relationship with James Brown either so that was interesting and totally troubling given her age at the time – it seems like the beatings at the hands of these men was almost acceptable at that time. It's so sad that she passed while still young but at least she got to realize a dream while she lived.
I especially loved the segment where they played her master tracks of the great duets she sang with Marvin – her voice is so pure & beautiful. Although I have listened to her & Marvin’s duets all my life, I never gave her enough credit as a solo artist or more than a cursory listen of her tracks on their Complete Duets album but this program certainly sparked my interest in her solo vocals.

The Tammi episode was really great. I guess I'm a bit of a whore for all things Motown so alot of her story I already knew. I didn't know about her and JB tho, but so not surprised that he was beating her. That clip from youtube comes to mind, the one where's he's clearly drunk as a skunk and the woman was trying to interview him about his recent arrest for beating his wife. "I look good, I smell good, I make love good." Effing HILARIOUS!
The rape clearly jacked her whole self esteem up, which is why she allowed men like JB and David Ruffin to abuse her. I wonder what the hell was going on in those days, she and Florence both had to deal with being raped. Very very sad. They were both described as "fast" girls, so I wonder if they just put themselves in sitiations they couldn't get out of, some man took things too far and neither Florence or Tammi were able to stop certain things from happening.
I also enjoyed listening to her vocals, what a wonderful thing to hear.
Marvin was SUCH a handsome man. I loved seeing the video for You're All I Need, she was just all over him. Who wouldn't be. I knew they weren't TOGETHER, together, but one kinda wished they might have been. Altho knowing Marvin's history with the ladies he might have ended up abusing her too, not so much physically but mentally.
24 is WAY too young. Poor thing, she really fought till the end tho. And at least she found someone that wasn't beating her or abusing her, too bad they didn't have more time together.

Shoot, by the time the movie gets underway Jesse Martin might be old as hell.
How about the guy from Dreamgirls as Marvin? He's very cute and can SANG.

I watched Tammi's last night and hers was quite sad, tragic. It's really sad that the domestic violence was not taken seriously back then, and folks got away with it and justified it. Yes vote for Taraji to portray her in a biopic, and a big NO to Terence portraying Marvin. He's been MIA for a minute since getting booted from Iron Man 2. I'm looking forward to Heatwave's story next week. I don't know a darn thing about the group, just love the music. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

None of these people are Unsung, none. The Fat Boys, who? Please.
Are you HAPPY now phunkdaddy? Why don't they rename the show, "They Had A Couple of Hits and Disappeared". They were sooooo of my radar (Musical Youth that is) I didn't even see them in the list.

Maybe you just weren't into the Fat Boys at all TD3. There are probably others that are interested in their story although they had a short run of 4 years. I lost interest after 1987. You scratched The Fat Boys off the list and didn't scratch Musical Youth off. WTH? Don't laugh at my funk

It would have been nice to see him give his side of the story. I enjoyed seeing other Dayton musicians like Keith Harrison(Faze O, Heatwave, Dazz Band) and Byron Byrd(Sun) give their perspective. Don't laugh at my funk

I went back and crossed their names out too, happy. I didn't even "see" them on the list, that's how insignificant they are.

No offense to the series, but they're waisting unsungs with George Clinton (dude is not Unsung and same with Bootsy from last season.)
And than the Fat Bioys, they could have pick the Force MDs from the same era. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I agree with Ms Trina and LBC. George Clinton does need an unsung and neither do the Fat Boys or Musical Youth "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
