I still wished she had told the full story on YouTube but it seemed as edited as her spot on Unsung lol
I believe I missed two parts to "her story" I had stop watching. She come off bitter and I understand if she was treated the way she claim. I believe her it's just odd lol
Like a bitter housewife. It was actually kinda humorous.
I think the relationship of Shalamar was more complicated than she led on.
I am interested in hearing about Tammi. I know the story, but I'm curious to know more about what happened... especially between her and Marvin and why her death affected him so much.
I became a Tammi fan for life when I heard this...
Honestly I like this version better than Stevie's. She sounds soooo angelic. Love love love this version.
How bout just a docu. I dont want Beyonce picked for the lead role... I'd just... barf.
U know what I was just thinking would be a hot unsung? Terence Trent Darby. Dude won a damn Grammy... then nothing. What happened? I wanna know. I know he had issues with the record company, changed his name and said TTD was dead (like deja vu up in here...) So yeah an Unsung on that dude would be hot.

Terrence Trent always struck me as a very intelligent man. He appeared to be a "thinker" when you listened to his thoughts. He seems so unlike himself now, or at least he seems so "unlike" the man that I thought that I was familiar with. Recreated himself and all. I looked him up, I think he has a detailed webpage or something. Now he seems nothing more than another "victim" of the sanity stealing music industry. Now he's appears more like a Eastern philosophical "seeker".
But in all honesty, there was only like one or two songs that Terrence did that I liked. So although I admired him, I wasn't a huge fan of his music.
I loved this interview then...and I love it now...and I think his points still ring true.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I remember in the movie "The Temptations" they gave a subtle implication that David Ruffin was beating on Tami. Of course when she died there was obvious speculation about the cause of her death, which turned out to have nothing to do with David Ruffin. However, if you watch the movie, even in that brief scene you can easily infer that there was some domestic violence going on in that relationship. David Ruffin was just out of control...totally. Damned shame.

Another "victim" of the record business. Not a huge fan, yeah, but I think the mystery around him and his "disappearance" would be interesting.
I see him tho, tombout P and MJ. He's basically saying that they both were non threatening Black men which is part of the reason why they were so successful. Makes perfect sense, especially around that time when gangsta rap was starting to scare some white folks silly. Altho around this time P was out there losing his mind and Mike was facing some BS allegations so... this really coulda been TTD's time to push himself out there as well.... but then again maybe not. Seems he's a casuallty not only of the record company but of gangsta rap as well.
I checked out his website.. definitely... um... interesting... but I've expected stuff like that from these creative free spirit types... just all the WAY out there, they are.
If u ask me this kinda thing is what P should be doing... but I digress.

How did TTD disappear? He released numerous albums and toured and even had an additional top ten hit (Delicate). Did he sustain the success of Hardline? No, but it's not like he became a hermit or something.

Perhaps "disappear" wasn't the right word. But that is the whole POINT of Unsung... it's not like you never heard from ppl again, but they weren't as wildy popular as they were at their peak, and SEEMED to move away from the spotlight for some reason.
Get ready for a new season of Unsung this fall starting Sept. 13

Sep.27 Heatwave

Oct.25 Musical Youth
Nov. 1 Miki Howard

I can't get "unsung"....doesnt come on Comcast. I missed the Minni Riperton episode, I can only catch bits and pieces on Youtube. That woman sang so angelic. She made me cry everytime they play that extended version of her singing her daughters name "Maya Maya Maya" at the end of "Loving You'. I'm sure Maya must get emotional when she hears it also.
Don't think Maya is all that funny on SNL though. But her mom was quite an individual.
Sorry you don't get TV1 but it doesn't surprise me. I HATE Comcast! Anyway, the Minnie Riperton "Unsung," I thought, was really well done, really special, really sad. I watched it more than once and cried. I know what you mean when you hear the end of "Loving You," too.
Just wanted to add that I do disagree with you about Maya on SNL. I thought she was funny as hell in her skits! Can't believe you don't, but we all have different opinions.

I don't watch SNL every week, so maybe I just only caught the skits that were not that funny. If you got time and you can think of a skit that was really funny with Maya, let me know and I'll "youtube it". I thought Minnie was a funny woman, and I dont think that she was particularly trying to be funny. Did you see her tell the story about the time that Lion attacked her. I did see that clip and it was scarey as heck. She also tripped me out when she did those high pitched "sci-fi" sound effects that she used to get paid to do for various Sci-fi flicks. She just "seemed" so damned sweet and so different / unique / creative. Just a different woman, particularly when juxtoposing her against the time period that she lived.

I like the idea of a Terrence Trent D'Arby epi. I wasn't into him when he debuted but recently saw an old video and went searching for his music and found all of his albums on Amazon. I haven't researched him and would like to know what caused him to "go away" in the U.S.
As for a movie portrayal of Tami Terrell - I always thought that either Tamala Jones or Taraji P. Henson would do her justice. I wish a bio-pic was in the works for her though - her relationship with Marvin always intriqued me.

When Cameron Crowe finally gets ready to do the film once he and any film company works out the budget, they should definitely get Taraji to play Tammi. Still hoping Terence Howard doesn't play Marvin but who knows?

Somehow Terence Howard doesn't seem like the right person to play Marvin, but I don't know who. Who do you guys think? I do think Taraji would be a great Tammi!

I honestly don't know. Maybe there'll be two actors for the Marvin film. Like have Terence play him in his younger years then Jesse L. Martin play him in his older years with the beard, I don't know.

I can't wait for her "Unsung"!
I forgot about Jesse L Martin! Wasn't he being considered for a role as Marvin a while back? I think he's be really good. Still don't see Terence, but.........

Taraji does not have delicate features-Tammi did and Tammi died very young. Taraji looks her age-nothing wrong with that-but she is in her late 30s and Tammi died in her early 20s. The actress who who will be in Undercovers with Boris Kodjoe is a better choice as Tammi, as is the actress who is married to Geoffrey Wright-forget her name.

Yeah he was but the project has been in disarray since its announcement. I think with the announcement of the two other films and schedules, production on the film may already have been postponed indefinitely and will probably never be filmed. It was announced that Jesse was gonna play Marvin in his latter-day post Motown period in 2006, no update came until 2008 when James Gandolfini announced he would play Marvin's Belgian mentor Freddy Couseart and that he would executive produce it but it's been silent since then and no word on when filming's gonna take place so I don't think it's ever coming out. There's two other films in production. I think F. Gary Gray's film on Marvin would be a documentary or was initially the plan, according to news outlets in '08, Gray wanted to do a biopic on Marvin or at least confirmed he was allowed to use Marvin's Motown catalog. Then late last year Cameron Crowe announced he was working on a Marvin biopic and that he HAS permission from Motown to use Marvin's catalog. Crowe's only difficulty is that he and the Sony film company is trying to agree on a budget, it could be announced at any time but Crowe had been planning the film for about seven years.

i really wanted them show the ronettes. you know, because they were all beautiful and talented. not to mention better then the supremes in my opinion.
I'm afraid the R&B community hasn't looked at the Ronettes real favorably. Hell I think it's common knowledge there were better groups than the Supremes though I like them too.
